cschmokel
I just finished building a new box. BS used to run great (it was the first game I installed). Then I installed a few more apps & games - now BS stopped working. The singleplayer launcher just crashes after about a second. The multiplayer launcher works fine, however. I tried re-installing BS, re-installing video drives, then re-installing BS again. Nothing works .. my system specs are: Core i7 920 6 gigs on EVGA X58 mobo Vista 64 Radeon 4870 Here's what Vista spits out: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Launcher.exe_unknown Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 4933f34b Fault Module Name: StackHash_8f57 Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 8f57 Additional Information 2: b91cdcccb7191a45fd50ad0422063589 Additional Information 3: ad17 Additional Information 4: a9d7c686f59fe875eaa636373af139cc

cschmokel
Here's something that might help in troubleshooting this glitch: When BS was running fine, I had it in windowed mode so I could read manuals on my extended desktop. The last time it ran successfully, it reverted to full screen mode for some reason. Whenever I alt-tabbed out or clicked on the extended desktop, BS would give me the exact same crash that now happens when I launch BS. I figured it was a glitch in fullscreen mode, so I tried to switch it back to windowed mode. But "fullscreen" was already DISABLED, so I enabled it, saved, re-ran BS, disabled it, re-ran BS .. but it was still running in fullscreen mode! So I dropped the res in BS below my desktop res (1920x1200 .. so I dropped BS to 1024x768 .. hopefully FORCING it to put BS in a window) .. well, from then on .. no matter how many times I re-install .. BS crashes at startup.
d0ppler
If you are using SLI, disable it from the nVidia control panel and see if it works. I had the same problem, and disabling SLI solved everything (apart from the fact that I'm only using one video card instead of two). SLI works however in windowed mode. Don't ask me why... stevie52
What does your event viewer say? If it's video card related it will definatly show you some information. If it does i would reinstall the drivers. stevie

cschmokel
Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. I'm running the latest BIOS, mobo drivers, video drivers, etc .. no SLI either. I'm thinking it is a file conflict somewhere in the vast ocean of Vista 64 .. because BS works on a fresh install of Vista .. however when certain things are installed, the SP launcher stops working .. I'm going to re-install vista and try to pinpoint what the heck the problem is. Any more ideas?? Thanks Carl
