As you can see to load them they just take the top cover off. Note the use of the larger MHU-83 to load this weapon. the only reason being that the MHU-83 has a lot more articulation on the lift arm while the MJ-1 can only go up or down.

-The Tow vehicle are likely to be MB-4 Coleman

http://www.entwistleco.com/defense/ground/MB4.htm

-Third A-10 from the top, next to left vertical tail is a New Generation Heater (NGH) next to it is a fuselage jack (a.k.a. tripod jack)

-Between aircraft 4 and 5 (tail number 897 and 149) is a MJ-1 Bomb lift (a.k.a jammer)http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=981

In front of the first A-10, look like an MC-2 air compressor

I was stationed in North Dakota (for a while, then other places..) and worked outside on the flight line. The temps were usually around -30 below zero, but saw -80 below (farenheit) on several occaissions..

There are apu's running with large air hoses to warming carts on wheels you can climb into to get warm... but the Parkas and bunny boots or MukLuks with your long underwear can keep you pretty warm for many hours..

The ice is like cement for 4 to six months before thaw.. the air sparkles like diamonds with the moisture in it freezes and hangs in midair.. and the aurora borealis hangs in the sky overhead providing a light show.

Only when the wind blew more than around 30mph did we come in. Under that we worked..

Hot food is always the most enjoyable when the weather is the worst..

you really enjoy hot good food the most then..
