markturner1960 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I have the misfortune to have to do a re install, which is painful, (due to the last update breaking my install somehow) as I own a lot of modules and theatres etc. I am told by Flappie in the thread leading to this that yes, its possible to copy the installed folders of the modules, theatres etc somewhere safe and copy them back over. On initial inspection it became clear to me that the required files for the modules are soemtimes different and many have files in several locations. Obviously without knowing where each goes or is, doing this and missing some etc may result in broken modules. Is it possible for soemone to list what files need copying from what locations for the various modules and theatres? Finally, it strikes me that its a pretty user unfriendly way of installing the modules etc. In FSX for example or BMS, the theatres and planes go in their own location and its really easy to re install the core sim without having to re download everything again........Is there plans to look at this ongoing or in the future? razo+r Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Before uninstalling, have you tried a repair yet? One option would be, if you have the space, you could download the beta if you are on stable (or the stable if you are on the beta) and it should copy the files over. Then uninstall the version and use the command to update back to the version you were. As for files, it is actually pretty simple and organised. Files that user require to fly something are in the mods folder. Files of modules required for the game (player does not have the module) are either in bazar or coremods, depending on their age. Installing official modules is much more userfriendly than the others, as you have a dedicated place where are modules are and can be installed in a single mouse click. 2
markturner1960 Posted August 7, 2022 Author Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) Hi, yes, I have tried repair and clean, in fact this is what caused the game to start to hang. See here: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/306428-failed-authorization-since-last-update/#comment-5023646 Maybe I have this wrong, but for example, the F18 Hornet has a folder in core mods, a folder in Mods, it has scripts written in some of the config folders for inputs a etc, a folder in bazar/liveries and probably many more.......so I dont think its as simple as you say? I may of course be misunderstanding how the modules are installed and work though......if you can simply copy one folder from somewhere, then great. I have copied my "Mods" & "Core mods" folders as back up and will now un install , re install and see what happens..... There are 3 different F-18's in DCS. The one that is flyable has the external model and stuff in coremods and the cockpit and that stuff in mods. And of course key inputs are in the input folder in the saved games directory. The other 2 Hornets that are not flyable have their stuff in bazar, as they are old and still utilize that structure instead. As I said, it depends on the age where the files are located (For example flaming cliffs still utilizes the bazar structure). But other than that, it's pretty much that simple. 1
MAXsenna Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Hey Mark. I think you could do this. If you have the space on your disk. Rename the DCS installation folder, and update the shortcuts to reflect this, and run a repair, so you get correct registry settings. Then you can download the latest web-installer and get a new clean installation, (which what a complete repair should have done anyway, if checking for extra files etc). Now, when you "update" and add your modules, it should copy what's needed from the "old" copy. I have read your other posts, but I forget if someone suggested that/or you rename the Saved Games folder, to see if it fixed your problems. Cheers!
markturner1960 Posted August 14, 2022 Author Posted August 14, 2022 Thanks Max, I did the full download thing in the end, but at least its all working again now.
