d0ppler Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I didn't get any answers in my last thread here, and this issue might have been drowned with the rest of the issues, but are there any fixes to my SLI-bug? It crashes when I hover my mouse pointer over any button in the menu (launcher). By crash I mean freeze. The whole system freezes and only solution is to do a hard restart by pushing the restart button on my box. If I disable SLI the game works perfectly (but obviously without the benefits of using two graphic cards). I have the latest DirectX drivers and Nvidia drivers. stevie52 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Cheers d0ppler, I stated the same in a previous post, but does the eventviewer of windows give you some information after the freeze? stevie
d0ppler Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 Sorry for bumping, but I would really appreciate if someone from the ED team could just confirm that they have noted this bug. Unfortunately theres no crash file being generated since my whole system locks up. A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H

You say the launcher crashes? You should have SLI set to work with DCS.exe not launcher.exe. They are two separate applications, dcs.exe is the game engine so thats the one you need sli for. Although, being a SLI user myself, I can tell you the performance gains are not that great or consistent enough to be of much use. d0ppler Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Well, how am I supposed to launch a mission/campaign without starting the launcher first? I have no idea if it works or not while in-game (dcs.exe) A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
BTTW-DratsaB Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) You just play the sim like you would normally. In the nvidia control panel make a profile for DCS.exe and enable SLI for this profile (there are no presets for blackshark/DCS.exe in the nvidia drivers yet, you will have to make one). Now when the gfx drivers detect that dcs.exe is being loaded by the launcher (when you start a mission/replay/etc) it will enable SLI. To see if sli is working, go to the nvidia control panel and look for the menu at the top called "3D Settings", in the drop down menu put a tick next to "Show SLI Visual Indicators" Edited January 4, 2009 by BTTW-DratsaB Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64. BakaNi Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Sli really shouldn't be crashing your system. Which version of the Nvidia drivers are you using and are you forcing on global sli in the drivers? Sli isn't very useful for DCS, I've only managed negative performance with sli enabled, maybe you'll have better luck.
d0ppler Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 It's not possible to create different SLI profiles depending on what application running. It's either on or off globaly. You can set different 3D settings for each application however, like anti-aliasing, vertical sync, etc. But not for SLI. A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
BakaNi Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 SLi is turned on and off in the nVidia drivers, but this is more of a 'master arm' setting. Whether or not sli is used ingame is down to a combination of a global force sli afr/sfr etc setting and per-game profiles. By default all apps should be globally forced to run in SLi:Single mode, which means that sli will not be used, hense it being strange that the launcher.exe should crash when sli is 'armed'. I'm not sure which OS you're using, but in the nvidia control panel, under 'manage 3d settings' is 'SLI performance mode' set as anything other than 'Single-GPU'? If you have a sli mode in that setting, then the graphics drivers might be trying to apply that type of sli to every application it has no knowledge of, hense causing launcher.exe to crash0r.
BTTW-DratsaB Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Just to add to Baka's post, you should be able to enable SLI for DCS.exe as below :- Using Global Sli, or any other global setting, is not a good idea in my opinion. It makes it very hard to track down a problem you might be experiencing with a game. Also there are few settings that work with every game. Things like AF and and Texture Filtering quality are ok but AA and SLI should always be done by profile to avoid strange behavior in other games.
