Cheezemad Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Hi Guys, I have been doing some methodical training in the Tomcat to enjoy some of the more mundane aspects of the fighter pilot's life in a Tomcat. While flying the A, and trying to refuel at night, I notice the probe light is EXTREMELY dim, and doesn't seem to illuminate the basket at all. I know there's NVGs, but I have to think it wasn't used in the A until maybe later, like say Kosovo or OEF campaigns. I can't find anything historical on that. Perhaps someone could lend some perspective. Also, is there a consideration to maybe increase the intensity of the probe light? Thanks, Cheeze
RustBelt Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 Yea that’s a DCS weirdsies thing. Lighting is kind of a hit or miss nightmare in this game. Heatblur knows about it, but as with a lot of lighting “challenges” no solution has come of it yet. The game engines virtual camera is essentially night blind (and I think has either an astigmatism or a corneal scar of some sort). Get your room as dark as you can and cheat the Gamma Correction up as much as you can stand. 3
Cheezemad Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Hi RustBelt, Thanks for the response. I will try tweaking the gamma. I play in VR, so external lighting isn't a factor :). -Cheeze
Cheezemad Posted September 3, 2022 Author Posted September 3, 2022 A follow up - I don't know why I never touched the default gamma before, it's like a new game, everything looks better. I could even make out the stars :). Not saying it wasn't a white knuckle affair, but I was able to get some gas. Major fun! Thanks again! 1
