Need advice on Winwing controls and trackIR

Ok so I have a trackIR system that I use for DCS and have mapped a button for recenter and pause of the trackIR (so I can move my head and not move on screen) to extra buttons on my F-16 Throttle HOTAS as it has two extra button not assigned for use in the profile and not on a real F-16.

I would like to do something similar with my F/A-18 Super Libra, Super Taurus and PTO and PCR setup. I have zero knowledge on the hornets setup as I haven't been learning it yet and jsut got them but on the Joystick and Throttle HOTAS they appear to have no free buttons unlike the WINWING F-16 HOTAS. What would be a good rarely used button to reassign to the recenter and trackIR pause function that wont take away a useful control or is there a free button I haven't realized?

Just use the 4 way recce button on the F/A-18 grip? Simple!

No. Pressing the recce button also „blanks out“ your HMD if switched on. And this seems to be a real life function.

but as far as I know, that button is a 4-way switch on the WW-stick?! So you can use any other position to assign VR or TIR center.

pro tip: also assign „Salute“ and „U“ to it, so you can do catapult launches without loosing the immersion. (Maybe not that much of a problem with TIR as opposed to VR).

Also, it switches the depressed mode on the SA page, if the cursor is on it. Took me a while to realize why my HMD was not blanking.

The button is actually a 5-way switch on the Winwing. You get the RECCE button+4 extra inputs you can use for whatever you want. I put NVGs in there.

By default it should be only set to Mark on depress, fwd, back, left and right should be vacant.

I was aware, that the 4-way positions are only a function of the WW-stick, not the real one. I actually have the TM stick and you can only depress it.

So are you saying, that HMD-blanking is not a real function of that button? I have it only mapped as „Recce button“ in DCS, but this is, what it does. Is it a DCSism?

Maybe the original function got obsolete and when HMDs became a thing, they put HMD blanking on that button. (Talking about the real Hornet now)

It is a real function, as is toggling depressed/centered format on the SA page. The legend is leftover from the A model, I think. AFAIK, the original function was related to a recon pod that the modern Hornet no longer carries.
