Actually the bandwidth requirements are quite low from what ive seen so far at 2-5kbs per person, basically dialup foot print. The thing that will lag your server though is when new players join and the server uploads any custom content. So if your playing new mission id suggest players not take off until the upload is complete, or circulate the custom mission via Xfire pryor to take off. At this point though most custom missions are under 5mb and generally much less.

eg: 3 players on my server today and data was going out at 10kbs

Which is a much better outcome than EECH where choke = crash

wow that's..not bad at all. I was thinking in the 100's of kb. Anyone know if there will be a linux dedicated server? that would make my day, also for hosting, whats better more ram or a faster processor?

interesting, i have an upload of 1.2mb so i guess i could host a server without much issue then.

Asus P8P67-M Pro, i7 2600K@4.6Ghz, 4gb Vengence Ram, Gainward GTX 580 3gb Phantom, Win7 64 Ultimate, Warthog Control System.

Trackir 5 Pro, Saitek Combat Pedals.

Well, you might still have a problem. I am interested to know if uploads from the server are throttled to clients.

For example your upload is fairly good for gameplay but what happens when a new client connects that doesn't have the map? Will the server eat your upstream sending the data to the client(map)? If so, the gameplay experience for clients can get pretty poor while the upload occurs. If it is throttled, is it throttled by client or is there a total limit on what the server will use.

The reason I am a little worried about this is because you don't have any options to set a throttle limit so does it auto detect your connection speed and set a limit that way? I doubt it. Hopefully the dedicated server release will answer all those questions. I think the community will have much better long term growth potential when the MP issues are worked out.

Your internet connection won't react well to having the upstream saturated.
