-skarden- Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I've been having a problem with the GBU-38 in the Hornet for a bit now, I find when I'm designating a target for my JDAMS I can't undesignate the target at all after the first time I've designated my first target for any given mission. It' works perfectly for the GBU-12 and other laser guided bombs, I can designate the target with my helmet, either drop or not even, and then by pressing the undesignate button (stick pinky button) it'll reset whichever sensor I'm using and I can select a new target but it just won't play the game with the JDAMS, it's permanently stuck at that first location I set or, and even moving to other seemingly random spots when I'm trying to undesignate. Even resetting by going back to Nav or even A-A master mode then going back to A-G doesn't fix it. it's still looking in the vicinity of that First target area. It's super frustrating and gotten to the point where I just can't take JDAMS anymore as they're useless for me currently. Has anyone else had a similar problem and possibly have a fix? It definitely could just be me doing something silly but I've felt like I tried everything I can to sort it out. Any help would be super appreciated. Tholozor Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 (edited) As long as a JDAM is selected with a valid TGT coordinate, the TGT diamond will always be displayed. If you want to remove a JDAM's TGT diamond, the weapon must be de-selected. However this will de-power them and require the 2:30 alignment again before use after re-selecting. -skarden- Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 Thanks for the reply. That seems like its not quite right to me though, as it still will only look at the first target I designate even after I've dropped on it, I can't then target a second target unless I manually slew it from the first target to where ever I'm trying to target which may be right next to it or tens or hundreds of miles away, It just wants to constantly look at that first target or after a bit at some seemingly arbitrary location in the vicinity of the first one no matter what. And it actually seems impossible for me to undesignate it no matter what I do, switching stations doesn't do it, from PP to TO doesnt work or switching master modes. Surely that can't be the way it actually works, it extremely inconvenient and cumbersome. Also It used to work perfectly, but now its just not working as it did. Tholozor Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 A track would be helpful to help diagnose if what you're seeing is normal behavior. 1 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
Solution rob10 Posted September 30, 2022 Solution Posted September 30, 2022 JDAM with JHMCS: before you designate your first target you'll have the dashed circle with dot in centre targeting symbol when you SCS FWD to select HUD/JHMCS. After you designate your 1st target this way, you'll have the small broken diamond over the designated target and the JHMCS will have a small cross showing where you're looking. If you want to move it to a new target with the JHMCS, use NWS button to undesignate. The JHMCS symbology doesn't change but if you put the small cross on the JHMCS over a new target and designate again it will move the designated target to there (broken diamond symbol). If you DON'T undesignate then attempting a new designate does nothing. A little confusing since the JHMCS symbology doesn't change back to the big circle with dot targeting symbol after you undesignate so you have to use the small cross to designate a new target and have no indication you've undesignated previous target. I feel like it used to change back to the circle and dot so you knew you had undesignated but maybe that's always just been with GBU's. It makes sense as Tholozor says that the broken diamond stays where your original designation was since that's where the JDAM is currently targeted to and that's what it's displaying. Even if you undesignate, the JDAM still has that point as your target. 1 2
-skarden- Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 Thank you so much Rob and Thol. Rob was on on the money, I think the problem I was having is that i was expecting the helmet display for the JDAM to mirror the laser guided bombs and it was throwing me way off making me think that it wasn't actually undesignating when it was. It is a slightly confusing way to do it as it'd make sense to keep some sort of commonality between the displays but military hardware is rarely known for being common-sense ha. Thanks again guys you rely helped me out of a pickle here. Draus Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 We can also undesignate target thru HSI on any MDI via undesignate "target" -> right side top button. After and before menu word is "waypoint", wchich is turn on NOT via same button, but 3 lower "WPDSG" mean waypoint designate. When undesignate this method, diamond JHMD symbol will return to dashed circle. In my opinion it should work via Sensor depress switch, wchich i dont know what for is used for. Designation not work in VR when use zoom.

The SCS depress has many missing functions across the different systems and master modes but i don't know if there is here for this case. If you have material in public documentation that proves this then you should send that information to ED.
