Hello,
I'm a bit surprised by the following statements from Chuck's Guide: "I would personally not map anything to the flaps since they will be set in AUTO mode most of the time." I was always of the opinion that the flaps are mostly in the CRUISE position? Except for takeoff/landing. However, I haven't dealt with the module for a very long time and am familiarizing myself with it because I want to create a campaign for the Harrier. In Chuck's Guide as well as the 'Handbuch' Harrier Manual CH 1-15.pdf I find little or nothing on this subject. I would be grateful if there could be any constructive comments on the subject of FLAPS handling on the AV8B.

Nope. You will set the flaps in CRUISE mode, only when you are at very high altitude, when you are doing cruise flight; and when you'll do AAR. During normal flight you'll set in AUTO Mode.

Totally agree with this. CRUISE is only used under very specific circumstances such as those noted above. Otherwise you should be in AUTO.

Alright, thanks for clarification.
I just wish there was info like that in the manual...

Flaps stay in AUTO throughout the flight , even high alt cruise, other than AAR or certain emergencies which call for flaps to cruise.

I find, in the Sim at least, that when heavy I have to move flaps to cruise to reduce drag when trying to get above 25,000ft.

Really? You can actually notice a difference? This is weird because in CRS you lock the flaps at 5 degrees. In AUTO they can got all the way up to 0 degrees.

The load I had even if I leveled off the AUTO would only go to 8.  I guess it is situational dependent?

Interesting, let me do some research on that.

I had a look at it, the flaps will progressively go up 5 degrees and then you need to get above M 0.88 to get them to go below 5.  This is a speed that the Harrier should never really operate in.   You probably had a too draggy and heavy loadout to reach speeds and AoA to get the flaps to 5 degrees. If you look at the flap schedule diagram in the NATOPS manual you will see which speeds and AoA will give you what flap angle and DCS should mimic that.

Looking at Figure 2-15 the dashed AV-8B line on Mach side 8deg in AUTO corresponds to ~0.825 or 500KCAS.  I'm pretty sure I was nowhere near that fast.  This was all done a while ago, pre 2.7.  I'll retest and see what's what.  I was loaded with Gun, TPOD, 10x LJDAM, 2xSidearm.  I was HEAVY!

Thanks for pointing me to the NATOPS, I forgot I even had one.
