Slippa Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 @Rudel_chw Couldn’t have put it better myself, thanks for that. Everything I’ve installed on the Windows side of things has been on the partitioned C Drive. I have external SSDs, originally I named one ‘Games’ planning to install on it later on but I haven’t needed to use it. I’ve spent the best part of a year happily flying about without any issues. So far as I can, I’ve tried to re-install everything the same way I did in the first place. I didn’t have to jump through any hoops to install DCS or Open-Beta and they were both pretty stable.
MAXsenna Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Hehe, yeah I worded myself a little simplified. Even though I do, sort of, know what Bootcamp is, I wasn't really sure if it just a bootloader or a hypervisor. In any case, I was thinking if the C is not a VHD, could it be disk errors? Highly unlikely, but who knows. That's why I also suggested you install Steam and get DCS there. Because, if that works, there's something up with ED's delivery system/your connection to it . Cheers!
Slippa Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) They're back. I just had a little flight. Thanks to you all for looking in and trying to help. I can't really say what fixed it in the end. Nor even if it's really fixed? Both Open Beta and Standalone are installed, have been repaired but are ghosting out and crashing at times. The Module Manager had a bit of a nervous breakdown trying to install bits but got there after a few attempts. After yet another fresh install of Windows, I used a VPN, grabbed the Open-Beta exe file from here and installed it. I ran out of data on the freebie VPN but grabbed DCSWorld exe as well and managed to get that in too. Once installed they've both crashed but I repaired them and for the first time I got a confirmation that the repair had worked. They don't seem too stable but they're working. I've seen the Windows clock tell me the year is 8522 again today but after a few reboots and banging away at the clock settings etc. it's running. I've lost all my bindings so have spent a few hours trying to remember where I've mapped what. I'll make sure I save all of that somewhere safe this time as it's a pain in the arse getting everything back how I had it. Glad to be able to though. Cheers again for all the clues. It's not a lot of joy not having any idea what's gone on or even where to start so cheers for looking in and having a go. Blue skies to all. Technical questions may be directed to my IT specialists dept. (You lot) as I really have no idea what went on haha. I've checked Silverdevils answer as most helpful but have to thank everyone, including Mike from Support. Cheers. Edited October 13, 2022 by Slippa 2
Slippa Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) They were back. I spent hours binding different modules as well as adjusting sim settings. Saved it all, rebooted, flew a bit, did some more keybinds and turned it off for a bit. When I rebooted I tried a cold start in a Mossie but none of the keybinds were working. Same with the Spit. They were both fine a couple of hours before. They're all there in the menu and flick around when I use the HOTAS or keys but when I unpause it, everything's back to default with nothing mapped. Bleedin saga this is. Just tried repairing Open Beta. “SSL peer certificate or SSH key was not ok” came up. Edited October 14, 2022 by Slippa The SSL bit
Slippa Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 When trying any free flights, or cold starts, in the Mossie, the Spit etc, I was dropped into the respective module with no controls bound. I went to check they were there in the menu which they were. Each time I tried to register them again, even load the saved profiles for throttle, stick, mouse etc. I failed to get it fixed. I rebooted, I tried repairing, getting one attempt to work but nothing I did either in main settings or for individual module settings made any difference. Gutted, I gave up. This morning, I wiped the drive and reinstalled Windows. All over again. I updated windows, made exceptions for the Eagle Dynamics & DCSWorld Open Beta folders and came here for the Exe file. I ran it as Admin and got the all too familiar time out failure. I did say it wasn't very stable. This has gone on for about three weeks or so now. I've had less eventful holidays. Everything was fine for almost a year. I hadn't changed anything other than updates since the first install then out of nowhere it all started going down the toilet. Now, I've got a fresh install of Windows 10, yet again, and I'm riding the same constipation train to Installation Open-Beta. Since I see I'm getting more 'Curl error' troubles we may as well have the morning log. I'm grounded again.autoupdate_log.txt
MAXsenna Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Do you know someone with a Windows laptop, that can come over and try temporarily to install DCS? Don't even have to run it I guess.
Slippa Posted October 15, 2022 Author Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) I was beginning to think I'd have to. I kept trying. I installed another VPN thing and grabbed the exe files, since that's the only way I got anywhere before. Open Beta went straight in, I could hardly believe it. More stable too, more like it was before this months messing with it. DCS World went in after a couple of attempts. Windows keeps playing up, repeating the USB connect/disconnect sound but stops after a bit. The clock keeps changing the year again, regardless of how many times I reset it. I'm searching about for answers but as long as DCS is letting me I'm concentrating on that more. I spent hours working my way through each module again. Binding keys and HOTAS. It'll take forever to get it all set up. A few test flights in each might refresh my memory. I'm backing up the Saved Games folder on an external SSD as I go and might copy the CoreMods too? At least that way if it all collapses again and needs a rerun I won't have to go through it all again if I've got some backups. Just hope it settles. I've got nothing else installed yet. Not knowing what's going on, what's caused all the mayhem is bugging me, pardon the pun. Makes me feel a bit iffy about throwing everything back in. I'll keep plugging away at trying to set DCS back up. See how it goes. I had a quick test flight and can't set the map to stay put. It's zoomed in and no matter what I click it won't stay where I've left it. No biggie, so long as it all keeps working. Cheers. Edit: I've just bought a map in blind faith and a fair bit of lunacy. DCS Updater's running again and I've got everything crossed. Fingers, toes, might even do the eyes. …All good. Edited October 15, 2022 by Slippa Faith & result. 1
