Flyby Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This is an interesting article about the Su-35. A nice read, it claims the radar can detect low-observable, and stealth a/c. Interesting. No? Here's the link: http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/su-35/ Enjoy! Flyby out The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
Force_Feedback Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It's not the main radar that does that alone. It has phased arrays in the leading edges inside the wings, those operate in the L-band or something (at least not the X band). And the 90km range is the maximum range, so in real life things can only be worse. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Boberro Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 If the article is truth, it is nice. But.... did Russia build more than 1-2 prototypes as usual? Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
RedTiger Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 If the article is truth, it is nice. But.... did Russia build more than 1-2 prototypes as usual? They supposedly have plans to buy a couple squadron's worth of them.
Flyby Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 FF, I see what you mean about detecting stealth a/c. One never knows if the specs released to the public are intentionally off by over or under-stating the truth. But I suspect most nations are involved in some sort of spying that attempts to ferret out the facts and share them only with security types. Hype is for public consumption, I guess. Boberro, I haven't looked into the production expectations for this Su. I wonder if that figure depends on the amount of export business that can expected? Also, with oil prices down, I'm not sure Vladimir has the cash flow to build Russian forces willy-nilly, though I had read that Russia has increased it's funding to rebuild and modernize it's armed forces. I wouldn't call it a cold war if it were rebuilding. Russia let it's armed forces lapse, if you believe what was written. Also, given the size of the U.S military budget, I think Russia could spend a fraction of that and reach near parity. Why? Because by the time all the money-grubbing sorts get their piece of America's military budget everything is way over-priced. That's just my opinion. ;) BTW, I think that sotry some years ago about a $600.00 toilet seat was really money diverted to secret ops. I think that's how these ops are partially funded; appear to pay too much for a toilet seat, a hammer, cooking oil, etc. Again, just my uninformed opinion. RedTiger Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 EvilBivol-1 provided some good commentary on the state of Russian arms developement and productions a while back. This was some months ago, so it will take time I do not have to dig it up. The take-away from it was that the concept of "production" in Russia is not the same as it is in the West. They do not have the capabilities to produce sophisticated hardware in great quantity. You'd be hard pressed to call two squadrons of a fighter thats on par with an F-15C as "parity".
Flyby Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 The Bear will rebuild, but will bluster in the meanwhile. mmw. Flyby out The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
RedTiger Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Here we are, I found it. Post #3: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=29396 I'm not sure what EvilBivol's "credentials" are, if you want to call them that, but he did run his own blog on this stuff and he seems to be knowledgable. :)
