theox Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Gotcha, thats what I did, hit the "No Swap" but didnt reboot. Will try that. Thanks for the help!
Feuerfalke Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I did try it ;) Works nice for games, indeed, and I never said something different. But if you do other stuff with you PC I still don't recommend it, regardless of how much FPS you get during your tests. :smilewink: It's also not the question wether it's needed or not. It's a known fact that windows does not neccessarily unload dlls and other things from memory, but keeps stacking, thus not really using more percentage of memory, but other address ranges. So arguing, that you never use your memory 100% and therefore can disable the swapfile even in a discussion about memory usage alone is pretty superficial. Not mentioning side effects on programs and system components. theox Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) Ok, FSX works like a charm with maxed graphics. That tells me its something with DCS. But what? It sucks, the game I want most to play is the one with the issues. :) Anyone got any further ideas? I'll do the swap file trick, but I'd rather not have to reboot my machine each time I want to run applications vs gaming. Edit: On a lark, trid runing it in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode. Got 10 FPS back. Weird. Edited January 12, 2009 by theox
theox Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Ok, problem still present but have a little more info. In Falcon 4:AF 3D cockpit mode, I get some stutterig on the ground textures like in BS. Do these two have anything in common?
7rooper Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Yes, they do. An outdated engine. My rig specs: Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR
sobek Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Yes, they do. An outdated engine. Nothing comes close in many ways, so one might argue that you cannot call it outdated. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
zokier Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I'd suspect that the problem lies in Creatives crappy drivers
theox Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Well I've got some onboard sound, wonder what would happen if I ran that instead.
