kingeider Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 at the time i bought an alienware r11 with the rtx 3070 because of lack of funds and you could not find a gpu which i would have prefered over this almost 2700 dollar mistake! for a build that i would have gladly kept building on to . i love DCS but everytime they have an update my computers performance suffers ,so right now i keep my dcs settings on medium with temps at 70 gpu 75 cpu in fear of melting my system to soon and if DCS keeps with the updates i will be updated out of this wonderful simulator and Thank god i have il2! 72Stu Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 75° is ok for a 3070 and CPU but yes, DCS isn't well optimised yet, that will come. Updates to games have always pushed PC performance, that's how gaming has always gone, no surprise really. I had to ditch my ZX Spectrum to play Jinxter and Gauntlet II on AtariST, upgrade to Playstation 1 to play the next generation of great games...and so on. PC gaming is no different. You certainly won't "melt your system" playing DCS. 1
EightyDuce Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Sadly Alienware have notorisly bad case design/management with poor cooling. That being said, 70-75F...isnt terrible, your computer won't melt. What's your ambient temp? As far as updates go, it's not that updates degrade performance (well, sometimes there are bugs that do), but they add new visuals, complex models, AI, etc. - those things all take need to be processed. If hardware stays the same and game becomes more complex and demanding, over time performance will suffer if settings remain the same. kingeider Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 i try to keep my room temp low the computer idles between 27 to 30 degrees celsius normally. when i am in DCS i will turn the room heat down or off and during the heat of the summer i turn my graphics settings down also i have high fan settings just for dcs keeping gpu settings to medium. i have used higher settings and it looks fantastic with 2560x 1440 p i have only had this setup under two years. 1 Alienware R 11 rtx 3070 i7 -10700f cpu@2.90 GHz 16 GB ram Virpil CM2 Throttle ,VKB Gladiator NXT And VKB Gladiator MK2 Dell s2721DGf 27in 1440p -ka-50 Blackshark ,A-10c ,F-86F Sabre,Combined Arms, Flaming Cliffs,Mig 15Bis,Mig 19P Farmer,Mig 21bis -Bf109 K-4 ,P-51D,FW 190 D-9,Spitfire LF MK IX .F-14 ,F-5E Tiger 2, F/A 18C, F-16C NEVADA TEST SITE,Syria map, CHANNEL map.Persian Gulf map and SuperCarrier
Hiob Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I have yet to see a prebuilt PC with good thermals. However, as the others already pointed out - those temps are perfectly fine and won’t hurt your hardware. Also it‘s really hard to permanently damage modern cpus and gpus (without aggressive overclocking). Worst thing would be them throttling down when getting hot. But we are talking ~80-85C for the gpu and 95C for the cpu before that happens. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
kingeider Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) truth be told my first choice was purchasing a gpu for my 7 year old amd fx 8350 with the sabertooth mother board you could not find a gpu or i should say i could not get the one i wanted !my old case was overkill with 11 fans and enough room in it for nesting sparrows but at the time all i could muster up was a msi 1660 x and was not happy with that! my old system back in 2014 with the 27in BenQ 1080p monitor evga 700 watt bronze originally had a evga gtx 780 and all the usual trimmings pieced together with the help of pc parts picker and these forums cost almost 2500 and to make room at home i just sold it for 250 dollars what a heartbreaker that was! i should not complain though between dcs and il2 i am having a lot of immersive fun and around the time that i got the alienware i bought a virpil CM2 and the gladiator mk2 or ww2 and the nxt or what u want to call it by vkb and gave my x52 away.
