Rex Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 When coming in for a carrier landing, especially for a Case II/III, does the localizer consider the runway as static and stationary, or does it factor in the runway's movement to predict where it will be at touchdown? In other words, assuming the wind is perfectly calm, if you line up perfectly with the localizer, and hold the exact same heading from the point of lineup, will you stick the landing, or miss off to the left? Solution MARLAN_ Posted November 20, 2022 Solution Posted November 20, 2022 It does not extrapolate the ship's future position, you will need to adjust as you approach. 1 Virtual CVW-8 - The mission of Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT is to provide its members with an organization committed to presenting an authentic representation of U.S. Navy Carrier Air Wing operations in training and combat environments based on the real world experience of its real fighter pilots, air intercept controllers, airbosses, and many others.
CBStu Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 You will always move to the left, or more accurately, the ship moves to your right. I counter that in a straight in approach by having the circle of the VV sit w/ it's left edge on the vertical line of the ICLS cross until about .3 to .4 miles out. At that point I let the circle slide to the left so it is centered on the cross. This is the only pic I have at the moment and it isn't quite correct. The VV vs ICLS cross is correct but at this distance the VV should be centered on the island. 1
