76.IAP-Black Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Hi Guys, I have bought this bird during the recent sales and have noticed there is always an auto rudder input during the flight. I can't find the button in the manual or in the Youtube vids to dissable this feature. Thanks in advance
razo+r Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 I guess you mean the yaw damper? You can disable that by disabling spak, I think it's with E. But normally you want to have that turned on.
76.IAP-Black Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Is it the yaw damper? When i use the ailerons the rudder moves always with them and for me, a bit out of control.
razo+r Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Yes, yaw damper. As you see, it inputs rudder when you try to roll to keep the ball centered. Spak though is not only doing yaw damper, but roll and pitch damping aswell. So turning it off will make the aircraft less stable and it is advised to keep it on all the time if possible. 1
76.IAP-Black Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 That was the system, thanks man. Im still pretty new to DCS and trying out different modules
Goblin Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 The Viggen is normally flown in SPAK mode. As mentioned it is a basic stabilization mode.
renhanxue Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 (edited) Yes, do not disable SPAK; the aircraft is not intended to be flown without it. Without it the flight control system is operating in a degraded mode, called GSA (GrundStyrAutomat), which is only there as a backup in case of systems failure. Without SPAK you do not have access to the full elevon authority, because a part of the deflection range on the outer elevons is reserved for the autopilot and cannot be controlled via the basic flight control system. The aircraft is perfectly flyable in GSA, but because of the reduced elevon authority and general reduced stability, there's a whole bunch of operational restrictions that apply. Some normal operations become outright dangerous without SPAK, like using the thrust reverser for example. Viggen is not fly-by-wire, but it's not quite fully fly-by-direct-linkage-to-control-surfaces either. The basic flight control system is directly linked to the control surfaces, but that's only half of the system. The autopilot is necessary to make the aircraft work as intended.
