... so now I thought I'd try to do a repaint. Looked at the template and found that there are several files. I believe these be the different components of the whole thing. Ok, so having looked at each of them, I've determined that the Paint1,2,4,5,6 files are the ones that actually deal with the exterior, and that the layer labelled "colour scheme" would be the ones you would change. Is this correct?

Now, how would you go about doing a consistent colour choice between the 5 files, making sure everything blended properly into one another? And how are you supposed to check your work? I've searched the threads, but seems no tutorials have popped up from the experienced among us :smilewink:.

This sure is different than IL-2 skinning!

the background layer is actually a color template, so if you turn off all the others you can see what parts are what. (but basically you are right, the color scheme group is the majority of the it) As to getting everything to line up nice........well I don't know of any easy way. I through the files in the temptextures directory using an existing name so they over write an existing skin, then load a game using that skin, then look and see what I need to change/move.

There are also 5 or 6 other files that have pertinant information. Mostly for the rotor blade mounts, shafts, wheels, landing gear, etc.

Hi,

Hey crazyD, it's a shame that no one has come back on this topic. I'm in the same boat, see all these paint texture, fine add some paint here and there, but what next. I did a lot of re-paints for FS9 using the paint kits that came with some of the aircraft, there you just did the paint, saved as a Bitmap and then put through DXTbmp, converted it to the texture format, but these one's are all new to me. So come Guys put some help here please, because I bet theres some good paints out there just waiting to get started. Timm

Have you guys tried exporting the 3d model out to 3d Studio Max and checking the progress there? I mean, yes - U need 3d SMax for that and yes - it's only to verify if things are well alligned but still... better than nothing...

:/

Never say never, Baby!

Mangaroca - I know this is an older post - but we've gotten past this issue, and there are two skins I've created - LockonFiles has them. I've got a third skin I'm creating, "Special Forces" kind of thing. It won't be a ready for another week or two (reality has to take priority at the moment).
