Are you using the version I’m using? 
This is excacly why I hate mods, but due to DCS civil plane limitations and my campaign needs civil planes, I needed to use this.

Exellent! I have always wanted to do missions where the AI isn't super agressive, but I don't want to pay for a campaign (until Reflected's Arctic Thunder for F-16 comes out )

One issue I found is that my wingman doesn't seem to respond to commands (yes, I'm using UHF 250) even tho he calls out contacts. Probably an issue caused by DCS updates.

I found it really hard to fight without AWACS support, I'm curious if that's actually realistic in a combat scenario or if there's always some sort of EW support (so I can blame my skill issue on that real pilots aren't expected to do this )

If he doesn't respond on UHF, try VHF. With this campaign, as i recall, you don't need to tune the radios, all the friendly comms are already tuned in your default frequencies. Either UHF or VHF

@cesarferrolho I checked in the briefing that it's correctly tuned

Are you using COM2 to speak to your wingman? He won't respond if you're using COM1.

I'm very sure I did, I can try later

Anyways, thanks to you I got interested in campaigns, so I bought Arctic Thunder for the Viper (I'm Swedish so it's a natural choice ) and just finished it today. Thanks for inspiring me and enhancing my DCS experience!
