Hi folks.

I had used DCS briefly many years ago and I've decided to get back into it.  I've downloaded and installed the direct version which reports 2.81 on the EXE, (This isn't Steam) but many of the modules say I require at least 2.x.x loser than what I already have installed.

Is this because I'm still in the 2.x days remaining time?  And if so how do I purchase what I need to get started downloading the good stuff?

Many thanks.

Shop says lower version numbers based on when the modules were released. As long as you have any newer (later) number though, you're OK. Currently both Stable and Open Beta versions of DCS are the same - build No. 2.8.1.34667.2, as you will see in lower right corner of main screen after launching the game.

How to purchase? Just log into your client account on the webshop and buy stuff.

Then launch the game and go to the Module Manager (grey bar on top of the main screen, Rubik-cube-like icon on the left), it will tell you that such-and-such purchased module is ready for downloading, follow next prompts to install it and that's it.

Edit: if you were not around in a few years, you probably haven't noticed, but there's a free trial program for non-Steam users - you can try out any of the aircraft and map modules for free for two weeks before deciding if you want to buy it. Individual module trials can be enabled in your webshop account page as well.

Thanks for the reply.  The problem is, the modules I'm kind of interested in say I need a particular version or rely on something else and there's no purchase button.  I can view the details, but I can't add them to my cart.  If it's just the version that's reliant I already have it, if it's something else it doesn't say what I need.

Can you give examples of which modules you have issues with?

The only time aircraft or map module can be temporarily version-dependent is when it's brand new and has just been released only for latest Open Beta version of the game, while you use older Stable version (which just becomes temporarily outdated / incompatible at this point). However, when Stable version number catches up eventually, every module can be purchased and installed on both. That's the situation we have right now.

Content reliance is rather limited to payware campaigns only - they might need WWII asset pack module, or the Supercarrier module for example. I'm quite sure it's mentioned somewhere in product description on the shop page.
