In game "spacebar" messages do not appear

Hello,

I'm hoping that I'm just missing something small here or some configuration. But in all my missions, I never see the onscreen message prompts (the ones that show up in the upper right corner and tell you to press spacebar). I see them on youtube replays and other vids, but I'm left spamming spacebar in the dark when I think something should be happening.

Anyone know what I've got wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Finally figured this out,

If you are a user of VoiceAttack and VAICOM PRO, there is an option to "hide all text". This is the culprit! 

Makes no sense to find this solution here in BD's DLC sub forum, but somehow I ended up here. Maybe a forum search will help someone else who runs into this.
