…is much easier than I expected! I was preparing myself for a frustrating time, and plugged in after about 10 mins of trying. Not as easy as the Hornet (though not far off) and a damn sight easier than the Tomcat.

Still haven’t attempted any VSTOL stuff yet, maybe that’s where I’ll get bitten on the bum.

Just wish this thing would go a little faster with bombs on. Any advice on fuel flow/altitude for getting from A to B would be greatly appreciated. 😁

Yeah, it's easier than it first appears, and very satisfying 👍

It is isn’t it, I find the throttle control far easier than even the Hornet too.

You mean I might actually find a plane I can do it in?

id probably try the Hornet first if you can. It feels impossible at first, and I thought I’d never get it, but repetition really is key, oh and tiny throttle movements.

It’s a hell of a lot for your brain to take in at first which is why the repetition is so important as it slowly allows each part of the process to become something you need less brain power for.

Finally nailing AAR was one of the most satisfying moments in my gaming career, in fact it’s up there with landing my first 360 flip when I used to skate many years ago. I was buzzing for days! 😄

What works for me in the Harrier (with the KC 135) is keeping the pod on the tankers wing above the air speed on the HUD and the fuel line going “through” that black box on the left hand side of the canopy rail. I play in VR so not sure if this would work on a monitor. Also after calling “ready pre contact” I wouldn’t go above a couple of knots closure. : )

you have VREST page for this, check CRUS and BNGO sections

At heavy weights I would knock 5-10,000ft off the listed Cruise Alt.  You will have to spend so much time at max power to get there you might as well pull back power and cruise at lower alt.  Personal experience anyway.

Just spend a few hours in the A-10 prior to launching the harrier, and it will feel like a rocket. That's what I did!

I will keep this in mind, thanks.

Funny you should say that. I jumped in the Harrier after a bit of a break from DCS, I’d been flying a spitfire in IL2. And yeah it felt like a rocket! Then I made the mistake of playing around in the Tomcat…

Still, there’s something about the  Harrier that makes it so fun to fly. It feels agile and responsive (when not carrying too much) and has some very cool tricks up it’s sleeve. And I can put an RAF/Royal Navy skin on it! 😁

I didn't think it would ever be my favourite machine in DCS. It's so versatile, quick enough, and yes, RAF skins are available.

Also I like the way it handles, the Hornet just goes where you point it but the Harrier always seems a little, but not too, rebellious. I never feel like I’m fighting it, just needs some gentle persuasion to do what you want it to do. The Hornets just says “yes boss” which is handy when you have a lot of admin to do, but can get a bit dull. Still love the Hornet though.
