Thats bad news since f-secure is our only antivirus protection.

Then your best bet is to address this with f-secure, as they need to add DCS, as a false positive.

If you have windows 10/11, it has Microsoft Defender integrated, so your f-secure is actually an additional security suite or a replacement.

Most anti virus suites today that do "more" than what the integrated security does, either provide specific "browser security" or come with enterprise/company level management features.

As far as standard Anti-Virus goes Defender is as good or bad as any AV.

No prob, pulled my hair over it yesterday. You can test it by disabling deep guard and active scan temporarily, that will enable you to start DCS... DCS log indicates ED_SOUND.DLL might be the blocked function.

I have now uninstalled f-secure and only using windows defender.

DCS still won´t start.

I intend to find another antivirus solution and will not renew my f-secure license.

 

I will try and uninstall DCS OpenBeta again tomorrow. I have already uninstalled DCS twice tonight.

If you only want a basic Anti-Virus I highly recommend to safe the money and use Defender. It does basically the same, as any "paid" virus scanner.

If you don't require any fancy visuals Defender realtime scan does the job and it does it well.

Do a little google search for comparison of Windows integrated Defender vs other AV scanners.

The times where Defender was a simple pattern based on-demand scan and always ranked in the bottom 10% of AV solution tests is long gone.

Honestly, with modern malware attacks getting more complex and targeted, an Virus scanner is nice, but fighting a losing battle. About 3 new malwares per second on average, requires a different approach in enterprise environments since years.

Same issue here -  DCS/2.8.2.35759 - standalone server
Previously I managed to get it to run if I just tried often enough. Now it doe snot want to come up anymore.

It hangs first at line:
2023-02-16 08:27:18.690 INFO    APP (Main): CPU cores: 2, threads: 2, System RAM: 25598 MB, Pagefile: 3712 MB
For around 2-3 minutes, then advances to line: 
2023-02-16 08:30:20.409 INFO    EDCORE (Main): Loaded C:/DCS World OpenBeta Server/bin/CockpitBase.dll
and gets stuck indefinitely there as also reported here:

Dried the dll delete, tried repair, tried the empty exe.local file.

No joy

I think i found a solution today, with help from the steam ticket sistem.

I disabled all compatibility on dcs.exe, 

1. Right click on the setup files and select properties.
2. Click on compatibility tab and uncheck the box Run this program in compatibility for:
3. Click on Apply and Ok.

 

And it worked, you can give it a try.

Thank you for the tip about Defender and the other information about malware and such!

Since yesterday I run on only Defender and now I am going to try and make another "vanilla install" of DCS OpenBeta...

Hopefully I will soon fly around in the Viggen and F-18C in the virtual skies again...

Hello!

Now DCS works again!

I made a "vanilla" install and deleted the DCS.openbeta folder in users\saved games...

I moved the old one to another harddrive and changed name to DCS.openbeta_OLD

I then copied the config-folder and Mods-folder to the new one...

And now DCS works.
