Lasing crosshair disappears

I don’t know the correct terminology but when I command George ai to lock a target,  I can see where he is lasing. But when I switch to the front seat and come back to the pilot seat, I can no more see that thing anymore. I can only use the square shape to align my helicopter. Is it a bug or should i do something to make it appear again?

If it's the dot crosshair you're referring to, that points to the selected acquisition source. To see where George is lasing (i.e. where he's pointing the TADS), the pilot needs to set the acquisition source as TADS. You can do that in TSD or WPN page on the MPDs, with the bottom button in the right side (see Acquisition Sources in https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/ah-64d/#pf123). On cold starts the acquisition source for the pilot defaults to "Fixed", meaning it points directly forward, and I'm not sure what happens when George takes over pilot duties, so it might get changed then too.

If your acquisition source is set as TADS but you still can't see where it is, it might be outside your view and sometimes hard to find just by looking around. You can use the cueing dots around the line of sight reticle in the center of the IHADSS. The dots point to the acquisition source, so if you're seeing a dot in top and also to the right of the reticle, it means the acq source is somewhere to the right and up from where you're looking now. The field of view box in the bottom of the IHADSS will also show which direction the TADS is pointing at. See https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/ah-64d/#pf12f for details on the IHADSS symbology.

The only ways to tell from the back seat if the laser is on are:

  • TSD shows TADS line of sight in white
  • VID page is open with TADS as video source and you see the X or the * in front of the range
  • You are in rocket coop mode and get laser range as your own range source

If you mean the cued line of sight reticle (the dashed plus symbol), that's showing you where your acquisition source is and it has nothing to do with the laser.

You might want to read ED's or Chuck's guide or some other documentation on the Apache's systems and their operation. There are a couple of good tutorials on youtube as well. I think you should learn the concepts of operation, like what a sight and what an acquisition source is and how points and routes work, what a range source is and what the symbology means.

Thanks guys. But please note that i am very noob on apache. so i have very less clue what all these mean.

What i am asking is, i can see this dashed corsshair after i select a target for my ai gunner. But when i switch to the gunner seat and turn back to pilot after a while, and select another target for gunner, this crosshair doesn't show up anymore.

nullA screenshot of what you are seeing on the IHADSS and your TSD page when this happens would be helpful.

Like mentioned above, you want to make sure the Acquisition Source is set to TADS in order to see where the CPG is currently pointing the laser.

If the TADS is looking 90 degrees off to the right, you won't see the dashed reticle unless you look off to the right for it.  The little dots around the LOS reticle will tell you where to look for it in relation to your current head position.
