I've always used Joystick Gremlin and vJoy to map controls in flight sims but it seems every time there is a DCS update then DCS gets all the bindings mixed up.  DCS shuffles the vJoy devices and invariably assigns the binds to the wrong one.  The binds are all there just set to the wrong vJoy device.  Since I've been trying out modern planes lately this is a royal pain.

I have a mix of devices if it matters, VKB stick; Virpil throttle; and crosswind pedals.

I still prefer using Joystick Gremlin since I'm used to it and know how it works.  Has anybody had a similar issue? Has anybody had success saving the binds and reloading them after an update?  I don't want to go through re-mapping everything to lose them again I'd be concerned that DCS would still attribute them to the wrong vJoy device.  Tbh I haven't tried that yet because I just started flying modern aircraft recently and warbirds are not really a big deal to rebind.

Or do I need to switch to relying primarily on the DCS internal keybinding assignments?

A similar thing happens to some of my devices that have the same name when I unplug my powered USB hubs. It's more of a Windows issue than a DCS issue afaik, where Windows will assign a new device ID, and if there are multiple devices with the same name then it doesn't know which is which. You are saying it happens after DCS updates though.. are you rebooting or unplugging your devices as part of doing DCS updates?

What I do is save my bindings in DCS using the in-game profiles, accessed via the little dropdown menu available next to the device name under each device column. Then when the devices get mixed up, I reload the right profiles. That has to be done for each device and for each module, which isn't great, but it's less of a pain than having to redo binds or go into your saved games folder and rename files.

I have several Arduino devices. Windows frequently swaps their IDs around - especially if I disconnect or add one.

Using Joystick Gremlin it is possible to edit the profile xml file in a text editor and switch the device ids around. This only needs to be done once rather than for each module.

e.g swap the following ids

        <device device-guid="{42D97A40-DDEC-11E9-8001-444553540000}" label="ARD 4" name="Arduino Micro" type="joystick">

        <device device-guid="{B98437C0-1FF5-11EA-8001-444553540000}" label="ARD 2" name="Arduino Micro" type="joystick">

I stopped using Joystick Gremlin some while ago after having a few issues with vJoy. I now use JoyPro exclusively to manage DCS controls. It has a great feature to swap devices when Windows decides to change the ids.
