Blacknemisis Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Im using map rudder keys on my stick to control the BS is there a big difference if I buy some Paddles to control it?
Maverick-GER- Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Well i used a twist handle at the start and later on buttons on my joystick... but nothing compares to rudder pedals... the huge differences are: 1. You got way more control of the rudder using pedals, you can do really really slight adjustments 2. The immersion factor (3. More space for other controls on your joystick) btw i am using Ch Pro rudder pedals [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) DragonRR Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I recently switched from using the twist on my Saitek X52 PRO to rudder pedals. The biggest problem I had was that I got quite good with the twist and still find myself twisting the stick a bit even after 4 or 5hrs of flight time! However.. immersion has increased as Maverick suggests and the rudders are more precise. I can also do more actions although I'm currently lacking the coordination to do them properly! FOR PEDALS: Immersion/realism Improved strafing ability More precise AGAINST: Harder to very quickly "flick" direction (This will probably improve but obviously there is a lot more travel in the rudder pedals) Learning curve, especially if you are used to the stick twist. I should point out that I am MUCH better now than I was in the first hour of flying with the pedals. I was hopeless, my legs had no idea what to do.. in fact they ignored me. There is still a lag between brain output and my legs responding.. a very odd sensation! Overall I would recommend them but you probably won't like them at first! I was doing that for quite a while when I started work on my RL pilot's license. opformaster Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Almost anything is better than twist grip rudder controls. I think I will be using triggerhappys design for a set of rudder pedals. Currently I am using a thumb joystick and its way better. -op4 Rig Specs: AMD FX-60 @ 2.6ghz - DFI Lanparty SLI UT - 4gb Mushkin Redline Ram - WD Raptor 300gb HDD - EVGA 260GTX 940mb - SoundBlaster something Live:P - Samsung 20.1" Syncmaster 204B (Camera) and Shuttle 17" xp17 (Abris & Shkval) Flight Controls: Franken Force CH 568/Logitech Wingman Force 3D Hybrid - CH Pro Throttle - Logitech Momo Wheel Conversion to FFB pedals - Belkin N52
Maverick-GER- Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Well sure as DragonRR says it will take a bit of time to get used to as every new hardware will take some time. But i wouldn't wanna fly without pedals anymore (as with every other hardware i have to fly with) I have the pedals for around 4 years now i think and they always did a good job. Only 2 things i dont like about my CH Pro pedals are: 1. Toebrakes not working since i gotten the gameport version and plugged them into my hotas cougar (i know there is a workaround but i dont wanna do anything wrong and screw them up lol) 2. they are too close together I heard the saitek pedals are further apart already.
