HwyStar Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 After looking at the Su-27 manual and googling this I am still confused about the difference between the two. I do see that the Target Designator Control (R/L/U/D) is used in the (4)BORE Close Combat mode. Is the TDC Slew control used in the other mode(s)? I am mapping my controls and see the two different disciplines in the keyboard bindings and it is very confusing. I searched the manual for "TDC Slew" and it is not mentioned... Ironhand Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) The TDC is just that. It moves the TD over the target in Bore and the target mark in the BVR modes in order to lock the target. What it’s called depends on whether you are using the keyboard assignment or binding it to an axis. HwyStar Posted March 5, 2023 Author Posted March 5, 2023 Ahhh! So, to recap, the Target Designator Control is used to allow the systems to enable locking onto a target via the rectangle or circle (mode specific), while the TDC Slew mode controls where the radar dish is actually pointing or sending microwaves to. And, we would use TDC Slew (if required) to find a target, and the Target Designator Control to lock onto the target in that order. That makes sense now! Correct me if I am wrong, or no reply required. Thanks Ironhand! Ironhand Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) Unfortunately, you read my post before I realized what you were actually referring to and edited it. The TD controller, whatever you call it, is only used to designate the target. TD Control is found in the non-axis section for assignment, while TD Slew is found in the axis assignments section. But both do the same thing. Use one or the other. HwyStar Posted March 5, 2023 Author Posted March 5, 2023 Okay! I guess then my questions were warranted and new users/noobs like myself will wonder about this too. I was wondering why the TDC Slew did not appear in the manual. That explains it. The "Target Designator" is located in the sensors section. Thanks for your help, Man!
