(MT) FPS VR Crash or DCS Crash when starting FPS VR (video included)

It seems like one or the other. Perhaps there is a thread or process contention happenning. here are symptoms:

 

MT DCS triggers Steam FPS VR to crash.

If one is open before the other, it causes the other to crash.

1) if fps vr is open, then dcs is launched fps vr crashes

2) if dcs is open (MT) and fps vr is opened dcs crashes without error log etc

looks like some sort of contention for resources, that triggers reload of the vr/hmd? no error log is generated. a restart of steamvr can occur sometimes

interesting observation - may be isolated to me - let me know if you see it. but I dont see steam vr as a running app when dcs is running. and in Steam it shows as inactive, yet in task manager and processes it is running. very odd.
