Hey gang,

I've been losing all sound about 10 minutes into missions. I thought it might be due to voice command software but it still happens when I'm not using it. Only this game is affected. Other apps and system functions will still have sound when it happens. I normally hear a crackling or hissing sound just before I lose all of it and, on occasion, the sound will come back after 10 to 15 minutes. No other games or apps on my system are having this problem. My sound card is the Creative X-Fi platinum. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance.

Its not that speed of sound thing is it, viewed from outside the aircraft and in front the sound goes completely, the aircraft is flying faster than the sound. A feature of the game.

I wish it were that simple. No, I actually lose all sound in the game. No radio calls, no Betty, everything is silent. When it's about to happen I can hear some sort of static that is similar to the sound you hear in a car stereo when two signals are fighting for the same frequency, then everything is completely quiet. This only affects this game. I can jump to something else and hear sounds. On occasion, after a period of time, the sound returns to the game but it can stay silent for more than 15 minutes. It happens whether or not I use voice recognition software. Again, no other games or applications do this so I'm ruling out a hardware failure.

Yes I had this exact same problem and I seemed to resolved it. I believe the issue was a speradic conflict with Ventrilo running. This sound problem would happen when clicking on a tool button for some program, didn't matter which button or which program. When this happened Ventrilo was always running? Try this...Open the Creative Console Launcher and change the setting to 'game mode'. As well, make sure Ventrilo is running in 'normal' in the 'Process priority class' MISC. tab, in the settings.

Let me know.

This is what I'm running:

Vista Home premium 32

Creative X-Fi

q9550 [quad]

2.85 mghtz

radeon 1 gig [dual]

4 gig ram ddr 3

Thanks for the reply. I'm always in 'game mode' when I play but I noticed that my sound immediately returned once I switched over to 'entertainment mode'. There might be some settings in 'game mode' that are clashing with this game. I'll have to do some more troubleshooting to see if I can actually cause the "sound loss", then bring it back again (other than switching modes).

Once sound returned I was able to go right back to 'game mode' and continue playing but I didn't fly long enough to lose sound again. No voice recognition software is running during this testing so I'm pretty sure that's not a factor. I'll let you know if I find the exact setting in 'game mode' that is causing this problem. I will also try leaving the card in 'entertainment mode' to see if the sounds ever drops.

Thanks again, and happy hunting.
