boby64 Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Hello, I’m writing you to try to move forward on my choice of monitor and share my thoughts. I have a RTX 4090 and a i5 13600KF. I still hesitate between 3 types of monitor: - LG34GP850-B ultrawide - a 32" 1440p like the LG32GP850 or Gigabyte M32Q - a 32" 4k like the LG32GP950 for example I understood the nice side of a 21:9 monitor for more vision on the sides. So nice for MFS and flat flying in DCS but in air combat I find you often need more vertical vision. I was able to see what it looked like in a store by watching DCS videos on a 32" 1440p and I think it's not bad and relatively immersive for the size (could not try on an ultrawide). If I go with a 32", is it better to have a 1440p or a 4k in view of my config? In 2023 and in the current state of DCS, is 4k a plus on a 32"? Thank you for your feedback!
BitMaster Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 All personal preferences aside, if you own a 4090...why bother 1440p and not go 4k 144Hz right away ? For 32" I would always go 4k and I would avoid a 21:9 unless you play other games too where this is real nice, like racing. SCHiZO Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 (edited) I have an Ultra-Wide as my main, love it. But if you have a 4090 you might want to go for 4K at 28'' or 32''. It really is just a personnel preference call. You could always look into the Samsung G9 Neo. Its the biggest/longest Ultra-Wide on the market and I believe its 144Hz. Correction. G9 Neo is 120Hz Edited March 20, 2023 by SCHiZO
boby64 Posted March 20, 2023 Author Posted March 20, 2023 Ok thanks, so for you, in 4K, you don't have too much performance loss in DCS and a good gameplay ? For the other games, it's for MFS mainly... G9 is too big for my desk...
SCHiZO Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Ha, yeah. The G9 is a bit ridiculous but I'm sure its very nice to have. I don't have a 4K monitor but if I did my settings wouldn't be as high. If you can afford a nice 4K monitor at greater than 60Hz I would say go for it. If its too much demand you could always lower the resolution in whatever sim/game to 1440p and you'll be fine. Ultra-Wides are nice but if 4K gaming monitors with higher refresh rate were more affordable, I'd have one. Basically, if you want nice crisp details go 4K. If you want greater immersion, go Ultra-Wide at 1440p.

okopanja Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 You have to consider also pixel sizes, for spotting...

I think, for a flight sim it is not ideal to have such a wide aspect ratio, 16:9 is imo wide enough. But taste and liking differ and some for sure find it real nice, it's a personal thing. On the flight deck it would be nice so you can see more of what's going on around you, low speed, quasi circle shape of event horizon On the other hand, and that is more flight sim related, while in flight, usually fast forward, you don't need that much peripheral view, your event horizon is shaped like a cone pointing towards you, whats far left and right is not of such importance as for example in surface racing games or scenery based games. Sure, one could say, just look up or down and you get what you want, but that is not the same for me.
