A funny thing happened on the way to the target area...

After a very successful attack on an large enemy convoy :gun_sniper: , I had to RTB and rearm and refuel. I was concerned that I wouldnt be able to after reading some of the posts here. Well, I made sure the radio was setup correctly and landed right outside my hangar (I guess?) and I heard the ground crewman acknowledge the request for ammo and fuel. After takeoff, I headed back for some more sniping and started to track a tracked vehicle. So I let lose with a Vikhr and another and another, and before you know it I had expended 5 missiles on this one vehicle. Thinking, there was something wrong with either me or ( a bug ), I changed targets and blew that one up on the first shot. When I returned back to my original target, I had noticed that it had been dead from round 1 and I was now shooting at a dead carcas. How's that for egg on the face???:doh:

I remember when I first got the sim, I had a target locked up, everything looked good to shoot, their was no enemy in the vicinity to shoot at me as I was outside their engagment zone, so I fired 2 vik's, I pushed f2 as I love to watch the helo attack and about a second or so after I fired and when I was in f2 mode two explosions right in front of my cockpit went off, I crapped myself and thinking I was under attack I instinctively moved the stick whilst still in f2 mode and the helo went upside down and I crashed :(

 

only to find out later that it was the viks that blew up for some odd reason or another and that I wasnt under attack as I thought, so I killed myself by thinking I was under attack :) thankfully that has only happened once and I dont know what caused them to blow up, maybe the lock was broken and they detonated, but I sure was depressed as this was when I first got the sim and it took me ages to to get to the target zone and only seconds to kill myself once their.

 

You gotta love this sim as the amount of ways you can kill yourself is unreal :)

I've noticed that the Devs did something very nice: Carcasses usually won't lock, ie, no "TA" on the HUD. You can freeze the shkval on it but usually won't get a true target lock.

i see you have knowledge of some quite deadly tactics:

1. If you ever get attacked: kill yourself.

2. If you think you get attacked: kill yourself.

3. If you get to the target zone: kill yourself in seconds.

Smokin', Very True. I noticed that as well. In my single minded focus to KILL, I overrode the automode by slewing the laser designator and steering the vikhs manually. Over and over and over again. Talk about single minded determination to see an explosion !

I can't really agree that what the dev's did was nice - IRL, ID'ing a dead target can be quite an issue, as well as the fact that the Schvvvakval (spelling!) is supposed to track by image contrast, which would mean that it should track a wreck.

I think it's a step away from realism and thus not nice. Smoke, trees, and such should disrupt lock and you should be able to lock onto a hit target.
