sweinhart3 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Hi all. Im new to this sim and must say Im very impressed. I have tried many sims in the past and lost interest pretty quick because it just didnt feel real enough. This is the first sim Ive seen that details everything. Im not really a very experienced simmer but I have flown on several occasions in real life though I do not have a pilots license. I have pretty much read the entire flight manual that comes with this and after flying a few weeks in this sim I would say that i understand about 90% of it. There are some flight systems I dont fully understand yet and I think I need someone more experienced to coach me on some of it. I have heard of online squadrons if anyone knows how I can get invloved with one would be appreciated. Second question is a technical one. I bought 61" dlp hdtv and Nvidia's 3D glasses specifically for this sim. I have to say the effect is absolutely breathtaking. I actually feel kinda cramped in the cockpit and all the avionics feel within arms reach. This was totally worth the investment but theres one little problem. The mouse crosshair appears to be rendered at screen depth and not the depth of the cockipt. This causes the appearence of two crosshairs because your eyes are no longer focused at screen depth and where the actual mouse position is right between the 2 crosshairs. Is there a way to change the depth of where the crosshair is rendered? I can still fly with like this but its a little more challenging. miguez Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Hi sweinhart, Welcome to the community! I can help you out online sometime, and I am sure others will pipe in too. There is a good group of guys who get together via the SimHQ teamspeak server. Look for BobbyC, Crash, Flex, or Darkhorse, or me (Miguez). We usually fly together o the weekends, and everybody is still learning, so there are always questions being answered. I would also be available for one-on-one, just let me know. That's great news on the nVidia 3D glasses, I posted a thread not long ago about those, as they seem to be great. Glad to hear they work well. The crosshairs behave like that because they were not originally designed to be viewed as 3D. Chances are it will take a patch from ED to fix this, and who knows if they ever will get to it (no offense, but there are lots of more important things they are working on right now). Problems like this exist in other games too, if you read reviews of these glasses. Anyways, good to meet you, welcome again, and let's see if we can get together and do some flying!
Pavlos Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) Hi Sweinhart3 Glad you find this sim enjoyable. If you're looking for an online group to join, we at GNSF are working flat-out on implementing Black Shark. We have a reporting system in place and we are working on a basic set of rules and creating some missions. Feel free to have a look at the page (link in my signature) and sign up if it interests you...of course if your only goal is to learn a few specific things about the game, then other places as miguez wrote could be better suited. We are also far from experts at it, as the game is new to everyone and we are still learning. There's about 4-5 of us that play the game right now, but we're hoping to expand. :) Edited February 6, 2009 by Pavlos GNSF
