Vesperatus Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Good morning gents, I was looking at possible helicopter combat sim and saw that game. I've been looking at different videos, screenshot and reading on the forums on how people like this game. So far, it does look like it is a good game. Last time I played an helicopter flight sim was back in the times of HIND, by Interactive Magic. That was an AWESOME game and BlackShark seems to look somewhat similar. Now, since there is no demo, I was wondering If I would enjoy the game using my Logitech Extreme 3d pro ( 3 axis joystick with a hat and couple of buttons and a throttle. ) Anyone playing with that joystick ? Any success ? I hope some people can anwser because that's the only thing holding me back from ordering the game.
shabo Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 youll enjoy the game no matter what stick your using. I got a buddy that using an old Sidewinder and he swears by it!! me personally i like the additional buttons features of a nice HOTAS, my choice is my HOTAS Cougar, or my Saitek X-52. But to each is own right? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] www.wargamelabs.com you might need a life if you computer specs are in your sig ;)
PoleCat Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Some are definitely using that stick. I think you will find this sim simply amazing. It is in a league of its own. No former chopper sim even comes close. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Vesperatus Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 I forgot to mention that while looking around the forums, I found mention of the TrackIR device. Can I still enjoy the game using the HAT or you really need the TrackIR to look up down, left right ?
PoleCat Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) You can also use a hat switch but be forewarned, if you ever purchase a TrackIR you will never use a hat switch for views again. Second only to a good HOTAS in my book. Not to mention with an entry level stick like yours it will free up the hat switch for other functions to use a TIR. Boulund Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I've got a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and it works superbly. Nothing to complain about, IF you later realize you really really want to go HOTAS that option isn't rendered impossible you know ;) If you search the forums you should be able to find my key setup for the extreme 3d pro if you are interested Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. FreeTrack in DCS A10C (64bit): samttheeagle's headtracker.dll
RockStar Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I forgot to mention that while looking around the forums, I found mention of the TrackIR device. Can I still enjoy the game using the HAT or you really need the TrackIR to look up down, left right ? Can you enjoy the sim without TIR? Probably so. However using TIR will take that enjoyment to a whole new level. Once you are trained to use TIR you will not want to fly with out it. Getting the hatswitch back is nice too, there is no shortage of button commands in this sim. Rock on, be strong!
koyan Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I have the Logitech Attack 3, a very cheap stick and i enjoy this Sim throughout. It has no hat switch, 10 buttons only and a slider. But with CTRL i have 20 buttons and with SHFT-CTRL, 30 and add ALT and i have 40 buttons to assign. So this Sim has great options to assign buttons.
ericinexile Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Good morning gents, ...HIND, by Interactive Magic. That was an AWESOME game and BlackShark seems to look somewhat similar.. It was awsome. And before Longbow it was the only thing going. Black Shark is the greatest study sim ever made. The Ka50 is at the perfect technological level (mid-eighties) to be challenging and fun without requiring a pocket-protector to fly. You find most targets with your eyeball. It is also the finest version 1.0 release of any sim I have played in my 25 years of siming. It's not bug-free but the bugs are transparent to all be the most persnickety player. Use the Flight Director and enjoy! Smokin' Hole Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.
RapidllBlade Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I have the Logitech 3D Extreme as well and it works fine. I just got it and this game and the 3D Extreme may get taken apart and reassembled as a separate collective and cyclic. RB
Vesperatus Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Thank you all for your great feedback guys. After watching a couple of directors note and reading the last few comments, I now have my credit card in hand. I will see you soon.
JDski Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 You can also use the mouse to look around too. Does anyone remember the DOS game Apache? I spent many hours flying that sim. Look at those awesome graphics, lol. http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/apache/screenshots
