Boberro Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 AI-units can fire R-73! Were is justice?)) Interesting. Time to revise game files. Maybe there is a trick to get R-73 or Igla... :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
topol-m Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) Radar is not needed for IR missile launch. Basically, IR seeker could be slaved to HMS. You look at target, get a tone and launch the thing. Although A2A missiles look like nice option, but the fact is that they take pylons, which can be used also for A2G munitions. Trading useful A2G stuff for optional A2A one isn't very good idea for attack helicopter. I never said that radar is needed to fire IR missile. I said that radar is needed to find the air target at much greater distance then IR sensors or visual spoting allow. Knowing the target is there you can use hms and fire. But not having a radar is seriuos weakness if you plan to do air to air combat (fighter is coming from behind or even left, right and is blowing you to 10000 ka-50s metal pieces before you even know hes there). BTW those screens are pretty interesting. But how is it possible to arm the AI with R-73 and iglas? Edited February 10, 2009 by topol-m writing mistake [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I don't know of any fighter jet radars that can see behind or to the side.

topol-m Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I don't know of any fighter jet radars that can see behind or to the side. You got to be kidding me right  Check this: http://209.85.129.132/search?q=cache:Nv-IRg7IyKQJ:warfare.ru/%3Flinkid%3D1601%26catid%3D255+fighter+radar+rear+zone+detection+range&hl=bg&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=bg especially the SBI-16 Zaslon radar part. And thats a fixed antenna radar. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
topol-m Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I don't know of any fighter jet radars that can see behind or to the side. There you go again: one of the latest russian radars already in use: http://defense-update.com/features/du-1-07/aesaradar_zhuk_AE.htm [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ZaltysZ Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 But not having a radar is seriuos weakness if you plan to do air to air combat (fighter is coming from behind or even left, right and is blowing you to 10000 ka-50s metal pieces before you even know hes there). With radar or without it, Ka-50 will be very good candidate to be blown to that 10000 metal pieces if it is engaged by fighter. 1 Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
topol-m Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Once again no one knows anything about Ka-52 an Mi-28N AA capabilities. :-( Edited February 11, 2009 by topol-m [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Radar or not, IR missiles on a helicopter would be WVR only and therefore slewable to the HMS/skhval. A radar might help in 'over the shoulder' launches I suppoooose.. :) Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
