M1: Saint does not turn in to engage

Just curious if anyone else had run into this issue? I just recently purchased raven one after completing dominant fury ( which was fantastic I might add ) and my first play through mission1 went ok and I didnt notice any weird issues. However, I wanted to play it better and tried running it through it a second time. This time, the when saint calls out "fights on" he starts to turn in, but then never shows up as a contact and immediately starts to just fly back the other way ( away from me ) and goes towards the coast where he claims the SAM launch and then heads back to mother. I have re-attempted this about 4 times now and even tried running through the repair BETA installation and uninstalling and reinstalling the campaign, no dice.

I can just follow him back to mother and land and complete this mission, but was wondering if I am missing some kind of mark that should trigger the dogfight or if this is just a thing that happens. As an added note, I dont recall an update between my first and subsequent attempts.

Ok, well I think i figured it out. Read somewhere that the backspace can cause issues with triggers. I had my backspace bound to my show/unshow flight stick. So this time i didnt hit that key and everything went according to plan.
