XH558 Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Hello all! I'm one of those folks who adores DCS in VR, but seems to spend more time trying to make it not run horribly than actually "playing" it (playing seems like a frivolous word with DCS!) I have, I think, a reasonable machine: Intel i5 processor, RTX 2060S GPU, SSD, 32GB RAM. I'm using Windows 10 and a Quest 2 with a link cable at 90hz and 1.7x resolution. The settings I'm using in DCS are modest, so no shadows, simple clouds and water, very little clutter visually, MSAA at 2x, Anisotropic Filtering at 8x. On top of this, I've just installed OpenXR, which does, in an untweaked state, smooth things out nicely. The menu is a bloody mare in my opinion though! In 2D, I'm getting about 90+ FPS, but in VR only about 20-25. Do any of you kind folks have any thoughts please?
speed-of-heat Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 sounds about right, generally you will get about 1/3-1/4 the frame rate moving from 2d to the same settings in VR, i dont know the Quest side of the house well, but assuming you have oc'd your i5 (you dont say what generation you are on), your GPU is likley to be the problem (though could be your processor)... if your PD is set at 1.7 in game that is way too high, suggest dropping to 1 and go from there SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
XH558 Posted May 12, 2023 Author Posted May 12, 2023 Hello! Ah, so it's fairly typical then? The PD in game is 1, and is 1.7 in the Oculus app. In that case, it's time for a GPU and CPU upgrade! Any excuse will do. Thanks.
CptBligh Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Let's be real, a 2060S isn't really suitable for VR post 2.5 PD 1.0, lower resolution in OXRTK possibly, no MSAA and low textures might make it playable. Adjust up from there if able. MSI Z690 Edge | 12700k | 64GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 4080 Super | Varjo Aero
XH558 Posted May 12, 2023 Author Posted May 12, 2023 The issue for me is knowing what "real" is, I suspect.

The latest version allows upscaling through the headset snapdragon processor. You can then set the resolution to "medium" and allow the headset to upscale to ultra. It's not comparable to a better GPU but it might give you a bit more room for maneuver. Try dropping MSSA too. This will give you more FPS. 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
