Hey guys

Manual page 332:

When the target is destroyed, or the attack prohibited “X” symbol appears, break off the attack. “

Well when the target is destroyed the “X” mark doesn’t appear

Anyone encounter this?

I think it relies on the Schkval bein able to discern that the target has indeed been destroyed, which is not always the case. This is due to it working on contrast and in many occassions there will be enough debris left to make it impossible for it to know that it was a kill.

That said, I haven't even thought of that so I don't know if I have encountered it. :P

The "X" appears when you are too close or otherwise out of constraints. You don't get an "X" when the target is destroyed. Note that it says "when the target is destroyed or when you get the 'X', break off the attack".

I thought the "X" meant that my laser was overheating. I based that assumption on absolutely nothing though.

I also thought that it was part of the IFF, telling me not to shoot at friendly forces. Again, based on..........nothing.

does it mean either of those too? as well as being too close?

Dont let the smell get to ya...............

Usually it means that you do not have a valid solution, so you're either off or too close to the target and should break off instead of trying to pursue the attack further.

roger that, thats usually what I do in that situation, break off the attack, regroup, reset the laser, and try it again.

I find it strange that TA symbol does not appear on destroyed vehicles. Are destroyed vehicles supposed to have better camouflage and to blend into background more easily? :glare:

As far as the game is concerned, once a vehicle is destroyed it no longer exists. There is a wishlist item to keep them around as static objects that can be targeted and attacked again. Whether something like that is ever implemented is anyone's guess at the moment.

I would like to see that as well. Having "fog of war" is something a lot of game makers have been reducing over the years (tons of crazy instantaneous info on HUDs and pop-up messages) that actually detracts from the tension and believability of a scenario.

The break "X" is similar to the one in the F-16 in that it is simply a weapons' parameters function.
