CE_Mikemonster Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Hello, i've done a lot of searching but haven't really found anything regarding this. Is it possible to create battle positions and earthworks for troops, such as a comouflaged 'hide'? I know that the terrain can't be 'excavated' but is a hull-down tank possible by taking the M1A2 for instance and 'chopping off' the hull? I'm aware that the infantry are given a damage model to simulate being dug in, but instead of simply seeing a representation of the soldier standing/kneeling, is it possible to model the soldier's head/sholders poking up above ground level, surrounded by sandbags? Crayola Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 There is a static objects mod for FC that allows you to put tanks in battle positions and a camo net over the top. Its on lockonfiles... not sure how that can be incorporated in though.
sobek Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 AFAIK the only way to do hull-down is to place the tank on a ridge in the terrain, so that only the turret is exposed. It's in EDs whishlist though. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

I couldn't help thinking it would make the game really interesting, with some front-lines based on this instead of just a line of units. There's infantry - and there's dug-in, well prepared infantry (with supporting arms such as MANPADS). They wouldn't even have to fire, for instance I thought that camouflaged hides could simulate FAC or Artillery Observers - you could link to a trigger for when it's destroyed for less accurate incoming? (Obviously realism would be relative to the visibility of the model.) I like the pillboxes in DCS, but a comprehensive suite of earthworks could possibly increase the feeling of a battlefield. Some could be empty, some could have AK or RPG? I'm not a modder, i'm not moaning about the current way of doing things, and I have no qualifications in the fields required, just wondered.. ## strokes chin ## :) Too many cowboys.
