Back when this was payware, it used to be that you key the radio mic and the comms menu would appear in the upper right, you said what you eneded to say, and then when you released the radio mic button, the comms menu would disappear.

Now, if I hit the mic button the menu appears, I say what I need, releas the button, it does my command, but the menu stays up there.  The only way for it to go away is for me to key the mic again or hit F12.

Is that a change since the payware version?  Any way to get the menu to disappear automatically?

It never worked the way you described in my experience, and I've been using it since the beginning. If you opened the comm menu you could select an option using the "take" command, but you would need to push the appropriate TX button for it even to start listening. I suppose if you had the mic button and the TX function assigned to the same key then it might work the way you describe. In any event, if you open the comm menu it will not go away unless you select one of the menu options using the mouse, a function key, or the VAICOM "take" command. The current version is the same as the paid one in this respect.

Here is a video when I was using the Payware version.  You can see at around 33:45 that when I call inbound no menu comes up but the commands go through fine.

The menu never comes up in that example. Your description in the OP said that it used to come up and then go away automatically. That's not what happened in the video.

Thinking more about your OP, when you write "key the radio Mic" I assume you mean you key one of the TX functions. The same key should not be bound to any DCS functions. I suspect you have the same key bound to a TX and to a DCS function that calls up the menu. If so, you should delete the DCS binding. Note the instruction in the VAICOM PRO manual that says "make sure the keys/buttons used with VAICOM PRO PTT are not mapped to HOTAS MIC or Comms Menu functions in DCS config." The manual notes: "The functionality of the plugin is not impacted if these [DCS mappings] are not cleared but it’s highly recommended to clear them to avoid any menus being shown when pressing these buttons, which would spoil an otherwise menu-free experience."

You might also check whether you have "Disable Menus" checked on the Preferences tab. I've never used that, but it might help with your situation. Possibly a setting got changed when you moved to the Community version of VAICOM PRO.

What stomphson wrote. Also note that VAICOM doesn't use the radio menu at all. So obviously the commands will go through, menu displayed or not.
Check your bindings and whether you have hidden the menu or not.

Cheers!

Thanks all.  See, the thing is, I set VAICOM Pro up fir the first time when I installed it back when it was payware and never had to change anything since until the Community Version came out.  So that's a few years that I may not be remembering what my settings were.  It may also be that I have been using it that way for so long that I don't exactly remember the nuances of the original setup V the current one (hence why the video is different from my post).  I just felt like something was "off" and different in the new version and the part that stood out the most was how the comms menu was still there even after my broadcast was ended and I had to key the mic to make it go away.

And yes, by clear the mike, I mean a button on my HOTAS.  I have a button on my HOTAS set to emulate "R" for mic press and "T" for mic release.  This is only set in VAICOM Pro, I did not set anything in DCS.

I'm pulling this out of me head and I am not near my rig now to be able to definitely confirm (maybe later tonight) so I'l double check.  MAX, I noticed and realized last night when fiddling with the options that the "hide menu" option was there...maybe I had that set before as in the video, the menu never seems to comes up when I key the mic and speak.

I'll have a look and see again.  Thanks both of you for the added insight!

That is not the recommended method for invoking VAICOM. I would look carefully at your TX commands in the VAICOM profile of VoiceAttack. Normally you would be programming these to respond to the HOTAS buttons directly without relying on keystroke emulation. You might want to review the PTT configuration section of the VAICOM manual.

@bonesvf103
I missed the part @sthompson quoted.
I agree with him. Read the part about TX setup in the manual, and maybe import the newest one from the last VAICOM version, and start out fresh.
One of the reasons for not using a physical VAICOM TX as the same physical PTT button in the sim, is that it will open the radio menu, even in the background if you have the "hidden menu" option checked. This can lead to "de-sync" of how DCS use the actual radio menu in the sim. It happens to me rarely, but it's sometimes noticeable. Remedy is say "take 12" a couple of times.
Words of note. Even with hidden menus, using the "Option" command, the menu will sometimes display. Again the remedy can be to issue the "take 12" command a couple of times, and it seemes to get back in sync so to speak.

Cheers!
