Hello

Im having some issues with motion reprojection.

Im attempting to change the settings in "open xr tools for windows mixed reality"

I have never tried using motion reporjection for openxr so its never been known to work to me.

When I set to "automatic" its appears to not function

when set to "always" it add 2.5ms to my frame time dropping my fps from about 55 to about 30 and causes frequent pauses. If I climb the jet up to 30k where I would normally see 90 fps then I do get a good solid 45fps and all seems well.

It appears that unless I have 90fps then reporjection doesn't function.

Is this a known issue or am I missing something

Thanks!!

The motion reprojection works linked to OXR toolkit if you have installed it...

What Motion Reprojection does is to adjust your framerate to your latency (it should be 10 or less), If the latency goes over 10ms starts working to adjust frames to 1/2, 1/3 your mhz render...so if you are running , for example your HMD (mine is reverb G2) at 90mhz refresh rate, when mr goes on instead of seeing 90fps I am going to see 45 fps (but smooth) if the system still is not capable of reach a steady 45 fps , mr would down to 30fps...

There is a lot of info in all the internet...but basically works like that....full fps, 1/2 fps or 1/3 fps....

To control Motion Reprojection from OXR developer tools:

Tip : You must set at OXR toolkit the motion reprojection to default in order to use the motion reprojection from oxr tools.

Then in oxr tools you have two best using options :

-Disabled : no more words....will try to use the best from GPU, if your rig is not powerful enough it will travel from 90 to 45 or less causing spikes , shuttering etc

-Use best framerate speed .... it will work as intended... if the gpu are not capable to reach 90fps will use 45 fps...so all will be smooth.

If the gpu can't reach 45 fps will drop to 30 fps

- check , the option "prefer fps over latency" works like turbo mode on at OXR toolkit, but , for me at least, better.

With this options , in my rig, see specs below, I can manage solid 45fps with a great great clarity on graphics and smooth experience.

Another way is turning off motion Reprojection at OXR developer tools and play with OXR toolkit options...

Personally I find better to use OXR developer tools. But it is your choice.

Hope this help you.

Very helpful.

I did not know it would operate at 1/3. That explains the 30fps and the increase in frame time.

Using MR from the tool kit resulted in an unusable mess so I set it to disable and instead found the MR setting in the tool kit as you described. I set that to default. I now get a smooth experience with no pauses like when I used the always on setting in the tool kit.

It works as intended now! Ill try some of the other settings you discussed as well and then decide if the smoothness is worth the artifacts.

PS there are too many OXR apps with the same name.

Thanks again!

You discussed openxr Developer tools

Is that located in the openxr tools as attached below or is that in the other openxr tools (companion app) or is this a 3rd openxr tool?

Yes, you are right, Open XR Tools. The Open XR Toolkit is the other one. ;)

But your shown version is an old one. You should update your version (Windows store) to see the things they talked about.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7950X3D, System-RAM: 64 GB DDR5, GPU: nVidia 4090, Monitor: LG 38" 3840*1600, VR-HMD: Pimax Crystal, OS: Windows 11 Pro, HD: 2*2TB Samsung M.2 SSD

HOTAS Throttle: TM Warthog Throttle with TM F16 Grip, Orion2 Throttle with F15EX II Grip with Finger Lifts

HOTAS Sticks: Moza FFB A9 Base with TM F16 Stick, FSSB R3 Base with TM F16 Stick

Rudder: WinWing Orion Metal

You should see this(see picture), the current version is : 113 .2304. 14003.0

If you select use best framerate speed will be able to see the two options below, Disable blah blah nvidia blah RTX"

and "prefer fps over latency"....this is likewise turbo mode on in OXR toolkit.

So if you chek this, disable turbo mode on at OXR toolkit. If not...shutters will come again

Awesome. I got it working as you described. Its certainly different but im not sure its better. Ill spend some time with it on then turn it back off in few days and see what I like more.  (do I dislike a not totally smooth image more than I dislike a smooth but jello like image?????... I feel like the latter is more distracting)

There's a lot of talk about MR and other stuff but the real hero here is FSR. Setting that to 100 and then using just the sharpening to 80 or more moves you from 2nd to 3rd gen at little to no cost.  Also in the overlay tools vibrance and saturation can help as well.

Well ive got my testing cut out for me now

Thanks again.
