how does the tomcat fit into multiplayer servers?

from what i know, servers tend to be modern which is like f18/f16 and WW2 themed or cold war like the enigma server but on that the tomcat is limited in availability

would the tomcat still have a place, in the sense it would not get out gunned or be lacking in technology?

I am kind of agreeing that tomcat does have the modern weapons likes F-15/F-16/F-18/others have...

However, I get lots of fun playing it in MP and I feel that it is a amazing aircraft beside lacking modern weapons (I just accept the fact, hope we have F-14D/St-21 one day).

Of course the Tomcat belongs on modern servers. The modern era for DCS goes up to about 2005, the Tomcat was still flying and fighting in 2005. The A was still flying in 2004. You have fox-3s, datalink, a pod (the same one as in the F-15E), and the whole family of LGBs. The only other "modern weapons" that you don't have are JDAMs (which the Tomcat did use, but not our version). The Tomcat belongs in any Gen-4 server that includes other Gen-4 aircraft such as: Eagles, Vipers, Hornets, Harriers, Warthogs, and Mirage 2000's...whether the time period is set in the late 70's, 80's, 90's, or early to mid 2000's. The F-14 was in operational use from the mid 70's to the mid 2000's, therefor, servers set during those time periods should have Tomcats.

This analysis is very poor. You are not even considering the greatest changes occurred since the mid 80s, that led to a stop, either directly or indirectly, to the development of the Tomcat. A couple of examples: the Phoenix was considered obsolete by mid 80s, but that AIM-152 was cancelled. The plans to move to the F-14D were seriously tuned down. The Tomcat god a pod because techs made a miracle with it, money was very tight. The Tomcat turned out to be an excellent AG platform, what was needed in that moment to fill a gap. As a fighter, it showed some of its limitations (partially doctrinal as well) even in DS.

Comparing LINK4 and 16 is just no. Same for INS, radar capability, even cost and maintenance. The Tomcat is often considered a gen 3.5. its core is around since 1962, whereas the others are the frontline of the digital era. Even more so for the versions we have in DCS.

I'm in a hurry, but there are tons other factors I could list. These should give an idea though.

Depends on the tasks at hand, the pilot/RIO crew and the enemy but it still holds its own.

Recently, I took my tomcat at the attitude between 40k to 45k and shot AIM-54C-60s to the enemies in the range 50nm-60nm, it was a quite different experience to bring the enemy planes down.

There are servers like Tempest Blue Flag that are 1980’s based. No fox-3s and such. On this server, F-14s and Mirage 2000s do quite well. On a modern server, F-14 is tough as the Phoenix isn’t a match for the aim-120 (have to keep lock until the Phoenix acquires or no chance) and no datalink.

but Tempest, Lima Kilo Levant or Blue Flag 80’s are great with the Cat
