Hi all

Decided after trying out general Multiplayer for a while, it ultimately felt like I was simply doing what i was doing in single player within a multiplayer environment but with less fancy scripting of user made missions, and it seemed to be a bit of a free for all. It was very cool seeing loads of others online doing there own thing but felt I was missing out on what makes DCS great.

So thought about dabbling in the world of virtual squadrons where you could fly with others with a focus.

However on browsing some of the posts, I`m guessing most of them out there need 3 months of paper based training exams followed by a fully qualified check list flight while doing AAR at nightitme in a thunderstorm before even I even get considered? Was looking for something a little less "intense" and more along the lines of some co-ordinated missions with like minded pilots. I also love the idea of getting together and practicing on various modules that I may not have a lot of seat time in alongside others to get my skills up.

Is there such a thing out there?

Im UK based and primarily fly the Harrier, the Huey (Im not seeing any dedicated Huey squadrons that involve logistics/troop deployment as part of a larger multi group?), the Hog (A & C) and the Hornet.....Actually just realised mostly H's... (I do have most of the other modules too)

In answer to your question, yes there are more "relaxed" squadrons out there (i.e. you need to be able to fly your chosen aircraft and have a reasonable handle on systems usage, but no long training/certification required before you can fly in squadron missions).  JTF-111 would be a good example, but it's Eastern Time based so likely not a great fit for you.  Keep looking and you'll find what you're looking for.

Generally what I see is pilots who think, 'I'm not good enough to fly with those guys,' while kinda missing the point that 'those guys' were each once exactly where you are.  Very few squadrons expect new pilots to come aboard as experts.  In VFA-41, for example (sorry, not EU-based), we very much prefer pilots who are NOT already 'expert' pilots so we don't have to un-learn them to retrain them.

For our new pilots, as long as they can start up the jet, taxi, and take-off, they are expected to fly in scheduled squadron missions.  They are tasked by Mission Commanders according to their level of qualification.

I'm in the same boat as you. I auto start my jets, get them going and just have fun. would just be more fun to do it others. Perhaps squadrons are not what I'm looking for. I can't AAR for the life of me so I play within my means of fuel depending on the jet I fly. I have nobody to practice formation flying with except AI and do my missions alone... like you said, it's like running my own missions but online with others I don't speak to. kinda boring. but it's hard for me to justify scheduled flights due to busy life and I can't get qualified for AAR.

so I just play by myself.

perhaps squadrons are not what we're looking for, but a group of individuals who just want to fly together. even a basic 2 ship attacking a waypoint target together could be fun

Have a look at the Wild Wolves here below.  We think we are a happy medium with fun/milsim.  Our checkride is to check your ability and what training we can give you to make you mission ready.

Would be happy to chat to you

Looking to join a bunch of laid back pilots. I would like to learn more and have fun. Not looking to become a real fighter pilot so if you guys are too serious then your not for me. But if your laid back and like to teach then I'm your guy. I just built my sim pit and I'm learning all over again so I'm really rusty. I have most modules but I really like the naval side because of carrier landings. I like the F-18 and I try the tomcat but the F-18 seems a lot more fun to me.
