Southern Israel Airbases have too many trees!

Is there a way to reduce the trees (number and size) in the vicinity of IAF Ramon and Ovda?  Ive seen both places in person and they are both extremely arid.  Ramon is covered in dirt/rocks/stones.  Only small bushes, except where planted in vicinity of squadron buildings etc, You can get a good impression by looking at Google Earth/Bing maps.  Here are a couple of pics showing representative terrain at both bases.
