Vesperatus Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hi guys, I started doing some instant action and joined a couple of multiplayer games and tried to rack up some kill before going farther in the campaign. However, i'm getting a hard-time identifying friends from foe. I search the manual for IFF, Idententify Friend or Foe and beside some references to my IFF switch ( which I alway turn on ) I cant seem determine who is a friend and who is not. I came accross that post "http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37467&highlight=Identify+Friend+Or+Foe" but how can that help me identify a friendly KA-50 and a not firendly KA-50 ( just the ABRIS icon or there is something else ? ) Right now, I find that the georgians stuff just looks like the russian stuff. Any help ?! thank you guys !
GGTharos Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 First, know where the friendlies are and where the enemies are - even general directions help a lot. As for identifying aircraft, you can always fly up and check the country sign on the tail ;) As a last resort, you can fly close and see if they shoot at you but - last resort, really. Vesperatus Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 As a last resort, you can fly close and see if they shoot at you but - last resort, really. That what I do on multiplayer maps for now. First time I hovered near a tank..... Now, I know better.
Acedy Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 IFF is not implemented in Black Shark. Another option in SP (and also MP if it is enabled by the server) is to use the F10 map view. You may find that unrealistic but in reality pilots would often communicate with ground units about where friendlies and enemies are (just check some CAS videos), which is currently not possible in Black Shark (apart from using triggers), so you can use the map as a surrogate for comms. Personally I usually enable the "show my aircraft" and "show friendlies" option in the options menu and disable "show enemies". You can also order your AI wingman to attack a suspected target, if he refuses then it's likely a friendly. That might stop me from killing innocents CIV in a jeep that look like a military jeep :music_whistling:
LoyalNine Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) Here are my 5 tips: 1. Fly online... when you do be sure to get on the Voice Comm (i.e. Teamspeak) for that particular server. I reccomend the KA50.com server for good communication and friendly folks. 2. Communication is key. Sort your squak codes and know where your buddies are (and are not) 3. Get to know what the equipment looks like. From even 8 - 10km away if you zoom the Schval in.. and then zoom in on that it will give you a really good look. Even if you dont know if what you are looking at is a good guy or bad.. zoom around and find the supporting units. You need to know the mission but if you see a Humvee with a TOW on the top of it chances are good he will not give the the red carpet welcome if you're flying red that day. If you are playing online the best way really (outside of just keeping your situational awareness) is to get to know what the equipment looks like. Zoom in on the Schval and then zoom in on that with your cockpit views. Get yourself in a good safe spot in a good solid hover and bury your face in the SCHVAL monitor and see what is around. It gives you a REAL good look at it from even 8 - 10km away. 4. Know the helo skins for both sides. This sim is a bit odd at the moment as Turkey may be fighting Russia both flying KA50's. The skins are ALWAYS different. If you zoom you can get a good look at it and IFF. 5. I have to repeat it - get on Teamspeak and communicate. That way if you buddyspike a teammamte you'l hear him screaming about getting locked up. Its a lot easier to NOT pull the trigger than to say you're sorry Edited February 28, 2009 by LoyalNine [sIGPIC]http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n537/16th_Relic/16th-sig.jpg[/sIGPIC] AMD 965BE, 8GB RAM, ATI5750, Track IR4,TM MFD's, CH FS,PT,PP "You can take my CH setup when you pry it from my dead, cold hands..."
Vesperatus Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Thank you for those tips LoyalNine. Just to clarify a bit and to make sure I didn't forgot or overlooked something in the trainings and notes, when you say zoom with the schval and zoom again, you are talking of the 2 zooms levels ? Unless there is more than 2 zoom level on the schval ? Again, thx for the tips.
LoyalNine Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 What I mean is find your target in the Schval (approximately) so its at least in the screen. this is why god invented the Helmet Mounted Sight :) Then I will zoom in with my views... Cockpit views. I use a TrackIR but I also have a button mapped on my throttle that zooms my cockpit view in all the way. Then zoom in on the Schval and take a look around. The level of detail is insane. You will become a MANPAD killer with this view. I will likely set up another monitor just for the Schval camera but have been too lazy and stupid to set it up even though its sitting right here on my desk.
