Hey guys,

I building a new PC right now, and I'm planning on playing DCS and Lockon. Will they work with the 64 bit Vista?

I have the LockOn Gold Edition. Does BlackShark DCS run in conjunction with LockOn?

I haven't played Lockon for a couple of YEARS, but I'd really like to play it again! I have only been able to play sparsly due to time constraints, but I should have more time to play now. I used to play Flanker 2.5 a little bit, and that's what got me interested. These games are awesome!

Thanks, Matt

BS and LO are separate.

Both OS's have their strong/weak points for BS. I am using 64 bit Vista and BS runs well. I've seen the messages about campaigns not working with Vista. I don't play them so I can't comment on that, but I do note that the 'Assault" SP and MP mission I DL'd run like a slideshow, so I guess I have seen this weak point of Vista. A friend playing on XP had no issues. System tested at 3DMark 2006...

Some missions will still make it crawl, but it is very rare.

I was hoping to know how well XP does compared to Vista on my system, but I was unable to get SATA drivers that work with XP (XP does not come with SATA drivers installed, so it will not see these HD's). There are methods to get around this to make a dual boot system, but all the drivers available for me did not work or were corrupt and I officially give up on trying to make that work :) I would have loved to compared them side by side.

I've recently experimented with multi monitor (3 camera) with lower resolutions and was even a bit impressed, even in the windowed vista.

I should note I lose some hardware use by going to 64 bit vista. My epicUSB (which I truly love) is still waiting for the 64 bit Vista drivers (Ralph of RR Electronics is working on this) and my TFS feedback seat, which I have disected and placed in a car seat will not work with Vista (no sign of life from that developer, which is too bad as it was a great addition to simming).

hope I did not get too OT for you.

Thanks for your help. I admire your setup JG!!!! That is awesome.

I read somewhere that flight simulators are much more CPU intensive that GPU intensive. Is this true with DCS and Lockon?

Here are my system specs. I don't have it together yet though. How does it look?

Intel Core i7 920

EVGA x58 SLI motherboard

EVGA GTX 285 SC

Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Dell SP2309W 23" LCD monitor

How does this joystick look? I can't really afford a special flight sim joystick. It worked pretty well for me the last time I played with it.

Is there any keyboard you can recommend for all the controls in LockOn? I could spend up to $75.

Thanks!

Matt

The joystick you linked doesn't have a hat switch, so maybe you should pay a little more for this one.

the extreme 3d pro is only 10$ more, and the hatswitch is very useful. If you look around, you probably can get it for a little over 20$.

I had one before I bought the X52pro, it works fine for FSX, never tried it on black shark though.
