Pimax 8kx Flickering Artifacts

Hello, for some weeks now I am experiencing some strange artifacts with my 8kx that were not there before.

It is a random flickering, like texture glitches in different parts of the field of view, a bit hard to describe. The artifacts also appear in the DCS Menu.

I have access to a second 8kx for testing and the artifacts are also there, so it is not related to the headset or cable.

What I found out so far:

- bug appears in Multi and Single threading

- bug appears in SteamVR and OpenXR

- bug appears in other sims like IL2 also

- it is more visible in a game then in Pimax or SteamVR Home

- lowering to 90hz does not change it

Reprojection is off, normal FOV

I have turned all options in Nvidia control panel on and off, nothing changed.

Does anybody have an idea what else to try?

I am running it with a RTX 4090 and an I5 13600k

Thanks a lot in advance!

Please make a video through the lens if you can. It's only visible in the HMD? Did you change your video driver?

I will try 😉 it is not visible on the screen mirror as far as I can tell

Yes, downgrading the drivers is something I have not tried yet.

What version of Pimax Client / PmaxXR / OXKTK are you using?

I use Pimax client 1.14, PimaxXR 0.4.0 (Have not tried 0.4.2 yet), OXRTK 1.3.2.  It is the most stable combination at 90hz.

Also, if you use turbo mode in OXRTK, it may bring instability.

I am using the latest ones, there is no newer version available at the moment.

the artifacts are also visible in Steam VR, so I assume it is not related to OXRTK 😕

If you are using Pimax Client 1.16, it might be the problem as 8kX owner are reporting issues.  Try rolling back to 1.13.

Thanks I will check. But actually I have never updated the client and the headset worked flawlessly until the last three weeks.

I have now made a through the lens video.

The distortions are mostly caused by white textures that have a high contrast to the surrounding. In the video it is the parking light at night but also the Throttle of the F-14 Tomcat creates them.

Has anybody seen something like this before?

Send your video to Pimax support, you might have a cable problem.

I thought so, but the thing is, I have an additional 8kx with a brand new cable and it has the same problem. I assume it is not hardware related to the headset.

Very puzzeling.  I guess you already tried to plug your HMD in different display port connector on your GPU?  Or tried the HMD on another computer?  Or tired with an older GPU?

I did have a similar problem with my 8k+ and the cable had to be replaced, but if you tried with two 8kX with same result, the problem has to be computer hardware or software related.

Yeah my next step is to make a fresh install of Windows to rule out Software issues. My other guess is a GPU Problem.

If you go fresh install, follow FR33THY's videos on youtube, very well optimized method for gamers:
