"Immortal" units dying

This may be me mis-reading the manual, so please bear with me.

First, simple me thinks: "an immortal unit can't die"

Then I read the DCS manual, which states:

Quote

Immortal

Set the group to be immortal. Enemy AI units will be able to detect the group, but their weapons will have no effect.

Now, I set a unit (a tank) to immortal, and (as a player) hit it with a Mav. Boom! Tank dead.

I now belatedly realize that this is not necessarily a contradiction since a player by definition is not an AI, so parsing the manual can be read as meaning that "an immortal unit is only immortal as seen by AI, but can be killed by a player-controlled unit", and I can even see some reason in that (make some key units only player-killable).

My question:

  • is what I observe intentional?
  • wouldn't it be helpful to change the DCS manual to mention that fact?
  • most importantly: how do I (outside of scripting) make a unit truly immortal, i.e. not killable by players?

Thank you for any hints,

-ch

Look here:

The place in the action list where "immortal" is makes a difference. If it's not nr 1 it will not work.
Players should not be able to damage the unit if it is sett correctly.

Can confirm (I see I forgot to report the outcome of my test in my above thread)

Placing the "immortal" action all the way on top did the trick 👍

Thank you so much, @Kanelbolle and @sirrah - confirmed. It's an odd quirk with the nice, and probably unintended side-effect that it can be used to make units only vulnerable to player action.
