bill2502 Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 (edited) One thing I always missed in DCS was a more complete, contextualized encyclopedia with intelligent links to platforms and weapons in a way that made it easy to design missions and learn how to use them. Generally when this is the case, we search on Google, but the information there is not always consistent with our simulation. I made concept art of how we can make better use of this. Today, what we have is just a kind of model viewer. Here is now as it is, and what it may become. Thanks! Edited October 28, 2023 by bill2502 6
twistking Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 It would be very useful if the encyclopedia would also contain basic/typical mission parameters: Cruise speed at different altitudes, typical altitudes for different missions etc. The tanker f.e. should include typical AAR parameters for all AAR-capable jets... 3 My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original

Yes! And different units integration, like SAM sites. 1
twistking Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 maybe those encyclopedia entries could be made as a community wiki project. ED would then only need to moderate and push updates... 1 My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original
PawlaczGMD Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 +1 The current encyclopedia is not very useful. The amount of information, and its format, varies wildly between units, and is overall lacking. Some units have no text entry. For me, the most useful would be information about SAM systems, basics such as whether it is radar or IR, the max range, max missile speed, ceiling, etc. But there are lots of information that would impact gameplay that could be there. Basic aircraft performance metrics, loadouts, armor values for ground units. 2

If the wiki was fed from an open community database, it could maybe also include mission design best practices and tips for each unit. For example tips to deal with DCS AI quirks or "mini tutorials" on setting up a carrier group or how to setup WWII searchlights in a realistic manner... So basically a more open comment section for each unit , where users could share their findings...
