F-14B empty weight

Thank you.

Is this specific to DCS?

Even the heatblur manual states 42.000lbs for the B-Model, and 40.000lbs for the A-Model.

According to all sources, the only variant with an empty weight of 44.000lbs was the D-Model. However, this very empty weight is displayed in the mission editor, so I‘m wondering if this is an DCS error ( 44.000lbs being displayed while the actual empty weight is only 42.000lbs )?

Best regards,

Toto

The weights are correct in DCS as per RL docs. The weights in the heatblur manual are not correct. I don't know where they got these numbers, maybe they are for a jet without stub pylons and gun but are certainly not correct for an operational jet.

sLYFa is correct.  Just to amplify, the F-14B and F-14D each weigh close to 44,000lbs totally empty (43,600lbs and 43,735lbs, respectively) which includes trapped fuel, oil, the gun, sub pylons without rails, and the aircrew (average).  The F-14B in DCS is always carrying at least the AIM-9 launchers on the multi-purpose-pylon stub.  The F-14B also normally carries BOL chaff dispensers on the launchers making the total weight of the launcher somewhere in the vicinity of 122lbs (90lbs/LAU-7, 31.74lbs/BOL dispenser) per rail (244lbs total), so the total would be very close to 44,000lbs.  I'm not certain where the lower numbers come from, unless they were from early block Tomcats - the 1975 NATOPS has an empty weight listed of 40,070lbs, but the F-14A in DCS is in a 1990s configuration, for which the empty weight was 42,000lbs.

HB has also been public that the Phoenix pallet in the tunnel is included in baseline weight and drag, even when not carried.

EDIT*  DCS limitation AFAIK, I can't think of any non ED planes where pylons can be removed.  If you know of any, let me know.

The tunnel rails' weight is NOT accounted for in the ME and rearming menu. The FM does consider their weight and drag though. So whenever you are having the tunnel rails mounted, add 500lbs for each rail to the total ME weight to get your actual aircraft weight.
