I just found out there is a animation for the crew to bail out of the Apache like with the Huey and I got to give props to ED for it but it does leave 1 question. If ED put the effort into not only having the M4s in the cockpit but also having a small level in interactivity with them, why does the crew not grab said rifle on the way out?

cool   always wanted to bail out when/after a crash

bailed out a few times, funny looking, pilot squatting and falling until he hits the ground and then stands up and parachute deploys.  but at least he is alive.

I recently found out it‘s nice for doing postflight walkaround the AC in VR.

Would also enjoy it for preflight walkarounds, then climbing into the cockpit. So missionstart would happen outside the AC.

Maybe that‘s doable? For folks don‘t like this feature there could be a launch mission in cockpit in DCS AC special options menu…..

From what I understand Heatblur is working on something like that with the F-4, wouldn't expect that for a while though.

It's just an "exit" animation (possibly working in reverse if there was a way to get in into the cockpit), and I don't think it's the only animation, surely other modules will some similar. As you mention, for now, whether or not you take the M4 rifle, it does not have any functionality (only If ED would one day make an FPS and all the functionality that comes with all that). So it's just part of the "pilot animations"
