According to Aircraft International, Kamov has been instructed to stop production of the Ka 50.

The Russians only have 5 in service and the remaining assemblies will be stripped for spare parts.

However the Russian Government has committed to the Ka 52, two seat version of the Black Shark.

That production was discontinued is pretty old news - from what I understood they were basically just assembling them from parts already at the plant and when that dried up they simply never made the decision to get more parts. (I believe the Shkval sensor and Vikhr missiles are considered obsolete and therefore not built anymore, which would make further production impossible anyhow.)

 

The amount of airframes in service is something I've seen all kinds of numbers for though, between like 12 and 22. So a sourcing on the number of 5 would be interesting.

Davek, I know what that page states, what I was curious about was the sourcing for the OP's mentioning of only 5 in service.
