Game freezes/crashes on exit and mission restart

Recommended Posts

I have no issues loading a mission and playing, the problem comes in when I want to quit (Esc > Quit), or I get killed and want to restart the mission (Shift+R). The screen freezes (no sound) and the only way out is Cntl-Alt+Delete and to either restart or sign out of windows.

Attached is a log, any help would be much appreciated.

2.9.1.4 DCS Openbeta , iMac running Win 8.1, Intel core i5 2.9 GHz, 32GB RAM, NVidea GeForce GTX 660M 512MB

Thanks!

Win 8 is not supported anymore. Win 10 is the minimum.

Now, seeing the end of your log file, your crash may be caused by Tacview track recording. Disable it in DCS options and see if if solves your issue.

Thanks Flappie, I have a few developments to report:

I disabled Tacview in DCS options, ran a short mission, game crashed, checked the log and it says Tacview was still  running.

I disabled Tacview in DCS modules (required a restart, Tacview is still there, but greyed out), ran a mission, crashed, checked the log and Tacview is still running. See attached log.

I will try to remove Tacview from DCS manually and report back.

Thanks Flappy. I uninstalled Tacview, ran a slow clean, added your autoexec.cfg... and still the same crash/freeze happens on exit or restart. I attached the log.

Is there another way to restart or quit? Maybe with a console command? I'd really like to find a fix or a work-a-round if possible. But the upside is that I can still play, everything runs well given my crappy outdated machine 🙂

Yes, LShift + R crashes it too...

Out of interest, I started up my old install of stable DCS 1.8.1 and I can play that without problems. It's also nice to see trees and mountains, with openbeta1.9 i keep flying into stuff that my graphics are not generating 😛

I could try win10 to get in compliance with minimum system requirements, but my thoughts are that openbeta1.9 is a bridge too far for my hardware, regardless of what the crash is related to...

Thanks much for your help, Flappie. I'll experiment a little more and close this thread if I don't come up with anything.

I don't know if it's the same problem, but I don't want to start a duplicate thread.

I am also getting game hangs when trying to respawn in a mission. I have to shut the game down through the Task manager. Tried 2 different missions and a Slow Repair. Still hangs.

If it's not the same I can start a new thread.

Edit: PC specs:

Windows 10. 5800x3d. 64gb Ram. 6800XT.

Oh crap. I didn't even realize I had mods. 🤦‍♂️

Did uninstalling some of your mods help? If so, which ones?

I encountered this thread when my game regularly crashed on restarting one of the Su-25T Instant Action missions (easy CAS). I'm not sure it's mission-related, but it seems it crashes the game mostly when I ask the mission restart in the outside view (F2 or after I crash and the view is outside already).

As for mods: I suspected the Barthek's Caucasus redone mod originally, but uninstalling that one didn't help. I've got a few seriously low-profile mods + DCS-BIOS - and while DCS BIOS does show some errors in the log, it does so consistently (so to say), not only when the DCS crash occurs.

As a side note, a crash related to mods... isn't this still kind of a DCS problem that it doesn't catch exceptions (or whatever the equivalent is) at the "extension points" and - if totally unrecoverable - at least clearly logs it that way in the log?

Suspicious logs are attached.

As a side note 2 - it would help us as well if the log was not polluted by various other warnings and errors, often graphics/shader related... if something is normal, don't report it as warning. And if something is a warning, fix it, or if possible, suggest a remedy, perhaps even in the log. (Sounds overly simple, I know, but as of know, there is no way to tell whether I can do something about a warning or an error.)
